new Blender Quickstart in Catalan&English

15

Raimon has published a useful quickstart cheatsheet for Blender in Catalan and English.

Raimon writes:

I liked so much the way old Blender 2.41 Quickstart presents in a nutshell the basics of Blender. I teach Blender so I know how valuable are this kind of resources when we are on thight schedules. We need to boost the ability of the students in basic principles so they can dive more easily into other concepts not so elementary but important.

Again as a teacher, 2.5 releases were a challenge for me. So I prepared a new version for 2.5 releases of Blender. There are no big changes respect the old version (Blender is still Blender!); I did basically some corrections and additional informations on ways to do things in Blender 2.5x. Hope you find useful, be in an education context for your students or if you are just starting in learning Blender.

There is a Catalan version, the English one, and the source files in Inkscape SVG format.

My english is not my strongest skill, or I could leave away things you find relevant, so feel free to improve it.

Thanks,
Raimon

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Raimon: Can I translate it to Spanish and distribute it (free)? :)

Hola Alberto, tengo la mitad del trabajo hecho, si quieres te lo paso.

  2. Hello,

Great job, Thank you very much.
Could I ask the same question with Alberto's for Japanese?
I am impressed much and would like to have one in my language,
and hear several people think so too.

  3. Hi,

Alberto, jaguar, I think the answer is obviously yes (and you're encouraged to do so) ! I've translated this Quickstart from the work done by the Blender Team in the 2.41 days, and I must admit that I don't have asked for permission to do so... I took this documentation like GPL, so I was only worried about giving proper credit for the work done previously of mine.

Actually my work on the english version is more about graphic layout and updating some bits, so the main credit goes to the Blender Team who wrote this Quickstart some years ago. Obiously it took several hours for me to layout and translate this, so if you find my involvement useful in what you're about to release, crediting me is encouraged ("Raimon Guarro i Nogués http://www.imatgedart.com", you can find it on the Quickstart itself)

BTW, Alberto, Pablo Lizardo translated this 2.41 Quickstart to spanish, so perhaps you can get inspired by his work as I was in order to translate english to catalan. Here http://www.imatgedart.com/wiki/serveis:formacio:blender:doc:basicstart249b you can download it (first document)

Hope I'm explaining and excuse my english!

  4. Hi Daniel,

good work too. Actually Pablo Lizardo translated to spanish the 2.41 Quickstart, not this one. But I kept him in the acknowlegements to credit a work that I used extensively for myself and for my Blender students too, and as an obvious inspiration in my commit to do this translation and update.

It seems that Alberto is going to make the actual translation of this Quickstart to spanish. We're looking forward to see it ;) !

PS: Found another couple of untranslated words in my english version :)
