"Z-Virus" - FPS Game Made with Blender

23

So, I just tried out this new FPS game created with Blender, created by Fajrul Falakh of Indonesia.  It's a complete game, with levels, guns, baddies, sound FX, you name it.  Though the game is straightforward, it's a valiant effort and completely free,  so you go ahead and download it and give it a whirl!

Hello, I want to introduce a FPS game made using Blender. The author is Fajrul Falakh (http://www.youtube.com/user/Fajrul97) from Indonesia. The name of this game is the Z-VIRUS.

Synopsis:

Starting from a virus called the Z-virus, which is in the process of experiments in a region by the scientists, but who thought the experiment had failed and the scientist disitupun killed instantly, and not only that, the Z-virus spread throughout the region.

A few years later a special forces trapped in the region, the aim is mainly to get out of the deadly region. But not as easy as imagined, as many deadly monsters are very dangerous spread throughout the region.

I took a few minutes to try out the game, and t's impressive to see a complete game like this, so kudos to Fajrul!!  But as for the gameplay itself, there are a number of flaws.  For instance, spiders (the only enemy I managed to encounter while playing) spawn from holes in the environment, and so many come out of one hole you have to just wait and shoot them all down.  Also, the gameplay is too slow for my tastes, (running, enemy speed,) and I didn't figure out how to change weapons (but that's my fault.)

But I can say this for the game: it harkens back to the old days of FPS, what with the low-poly count.  And another thing I can say for it: I found myself freaking out when I was being affronted with three columns of baddies (got my nerves wracked,) and then again, later, I was scared by a baddy around the corner.  In any case, I ended the game before I intended to, by hitting [Esc,] which apparently sends you back to the main menu.

All in all, it was a lot of work to create this title, so, once again, cheers for the creator.  Keep up the hard work, Fajrul!

  1. Hi.

I wanted to try out this game, but found only a Windows executable in the downloaded archive. Is there a Linux-version of the game around?

Looking forward to trying it out!

    Best,
    Morten Lind.

    !!!WOW WOW WOW!!!

Congratulations Fajrul - you've built a pro game!

The spiders and other NPCs are scary/freaky and also lots of fun - refreshingly different from other games
The environments you've created feel engaging and immersive - the use of narrow spaces is very well done.
Player movement and modes of transport are realistic and 'center/ground' the player well in the world.

That said, take on feedback to refine the game play a little, but put a limit on polishing it too much, and when you are as happy with it 'as can be' - push it to as many people as you can.

If that's now - then don't hold back - get this game to as many people as possible.

It should hep you shine in many ways! You deserve every success you get from such an amazing creative work!

I can't give you enough exclamation marks!!! ;)

I hope to see you release something on Steam, the Xbox, PSN, etc in the future!

  3. @ denis- I'm guessing not since it's licensed music that belongs to dragon force, and he could get into a lot of trouble with dmr issues. Give it time and youtube will pull the audio off his video (cause they are a-holes like that.)

I was wondering, do games made in blender only use the cpu, or are they able to use the power or the gpu to really push the graphics?

  4. @adam You could probably code something to make it utilize the GPU but as far as I'm aware it renders like old school engines, utilizing CPU for processing and GPU for texture processing and such. However, as a few artists have shown the BGE is capable of much better than this.

It seems to be the mechanics work well, and that is important. The gun mechanics and hit detection are well done. Minus the bugs mentioned this could serve as a decent template for FPS style games. It would be nice to see a bit of graphical flair. Real-time shadows for moving objects are not that hard to pull off and baked shadows could have served for all static objects, which is much easier to utilize in an FPS where you wouldn't see the character interact with static shadows rather than in different types of games like 3rd person perspectives.

  5. Hey @MortenLind. I tried it with wine and it works perfect!! every part of the game is playable. I was able to play at the end without any problem. v 1.3.21

Congrats Fajrul Falakh!! You're amazing!! Just one question. How have you done the dead bodies to disappear of the screen when camera see another direction? That was amazing.

  6. @Chaos: I had tried Wine, but an outdated version. Worked perfectly with wine 1.1.32. Thanks a lot for the version info.

Game looks really nice, but I am inverted mouse-only player, and couldn't find any switch for that in controls. Anyone found it?

  7. Nice that he got a whole game done. Nothing is very high poly or anything but it's all evenly done rather than other BGE games where you can clearly see where the guy focused his efforts.

Kudos to anyone who makes an entire game by themselves these days. Forget not having shadows or anything like that, I can completely understand cutting corners when you're ONE GUY. Too bad I'm on Linux as well, otherwise, I'd love to play this.

  9. All this is very nice,
unfortunately for better 3d productions besides patience must have a better and 3d capable computer.

Oh and the new 2.5x version of blender are finally looking better.

When to drag the new window content with the "+" features screen corner,
must be implemented to function a double-click on the split line for auto close these options.

    thanks.

  10. Hello just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren't loading correctly. I'm not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I've tried it in two different web browsers and both show the same outcome.

  11. Excellent job. Please upload it to other file sharing site, I would really love to download it and learn some things from it (:
