Hollow - Student Short - Made at Calarts

15

This video is one of the more experimental projects which combines 3D generated work and 2D actors in a mixed media fashion in a very professional manner.

Hello,

I recently completed my animated thesis film at the California Institute of the Arts, Hollow, a task that would not have been made possible without Blender. Although the film is mostly made in After Effects, Blender came to my aid on a few key scenes. I learned 3D animation on Blender many years ago, and I am truly grateful that such a wonderful tool has been by my side all these years, evolving and growing with me as an artist, and of course, always free. Anyway, I thought I'd share my work with the Blender community. The link is included below, Hollow can be watched via Vimeo. Thank you for your time.

Cheers,

Oliver Franklin Anderson

  1. I really love the look and feel of this. A sure creepy sensation. Congratulations on the completion of your project though, Maybe you can start blending more? I'm sure it would be great to see.

  2. Great!, very cinematographic, and I really like the mix of 2d and 3d. you should be part of the "Mango" team

  3. I loved the aesthetics. I didn't expect it to be slightly NSFW though.

I'm sure Zack Snyder (director of 300, Sucker Punch) would have loved it too.

I love the atmosphere, it hits some inconsistencies at parts but for the most part conveys itself very well.

However, the story needs some work. Is it a story about a murderer? Then why is there only a single body? Is it about this desperate man who committed suicide? Then why is he boarded up. Is it intentionally mysterious? Then why bother showing me the body? I know I'm being critical of this point, but it's the crescendo of the piece an in my opinion, it needs further consideration.

Otherwise, the piece was really well done and in an interesting style, and I look forward to seeing you progress in the future. :)

I second the motion for the nudity warning. Many do not like being flashed on a blog that is largely G rated.
