Even with many years of blendering under your belt you may not be aware of this nifty little feature! Handy!

In this quick video tip for Blender 2.5 we take a look at how you can easily rename items in Blender with drag and drop. Using this method you can rename anything from objects to materials and mesh data.

Another good idea to speed up workflow.
those small things sometimes take hours to get right
thx for this tip
Woah
And that's why I love Blender
Would be nice to watch these videos with a basic vimeo account. Some peeps can't afford paying for "premium" stuff and looks like they miss something interesting
huh?
I can watch that even with being looged in at all...
This is nice feature BUT I gues just in win and mac in linux (ubuntu 10.10 64 gnome) that does not work is it planning fow linux?
nice little feature...just like kylie minogues butt!
@ Stugys: It works in Linux Bunt 10.10 64 BIT gnome as-well :)
@temudjin
You don't even need ANY Vimeo Account to watch these videos...
Use another web-browser (Chrome or Chromium?) to watch the vid, maybe that works for you?
Nice feature btw. ;)
Does it requires a video? Honestly?
Is it too hard to do 2 screenshots and one paragraph?
Technology is good but don't abuse it ridiculously.
hm my mistakee it really works but you have it drag just on icon item name is not sensitive ok I will have that in mind, next question maybe image drag and drop works in linux whendrag from nautilus image to blender 3d Wiewport on to the cube? or some extra button needed?
Very cool tricks!
I always enjoy hearing Sebastian's accent. "Kvickly" is a particular favourite.
Blendnmix,
whats the problem with a short video?
Is it bothering you so much that you need to vent?
@TLOZ
I have this message when I try to watch the video : "sorry, the creator of this video has not given you permission to embed it on this domain. This is a vimeo plus feature"
Now drag the name over to Blendernation and will also be called "house" ;)
Everything, EVERYTHING shall be called house!
This isn't exactly 'news', but it was nice learning this a few weeks ago :)
@Stugys
It works in Ubuntu all right.
These 'little tips' are fantastic, and can save people hours. I'm so glad these guys take the effort to make these videos and give them out free - it's very generous and I've learnt a lot from similar ones. Keep them coming - please.
I'm totally with blendnmix here.
I don't want to sound ungrateful, but this video could have been easily replaced by 4 screenshots and 10 sentences. This is a waste of bandwidth, resources and time.
The best way to show drag and drop is to... show drag and drop. Video is the fastest way from the screen to your brain. Showing still pictures with text description takes several extra layers of interpretation, and is not easy for those who don't read English. The way forward with help content is exactly what these guys are doing - showing it, not writing about it.
Its my first time to try it out, hope it wax out
The creator of this video has not given you permission to embed it on this domain. This is a Vimeo Plus feature.
?????????????????????????????????????????
I don't understand people concerned about 'waste of bandwidth and time'. Is it your bandwidth? Is it your time? As Reaction has said, for the viewer it's the easiest, fastest, and most straightforward method. Unless you have a VERY slow connection. But then you shouldn't use BlenderCookie, as their product is video tutorials, so why should they suddenly switch to text?
this is SO COOL! :D
really handy tip!!...thanks Sebastian
