I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Cool. Es eröffnet. Gebündelte Python gefunden. Konnte eine zu öffnen. Blend Datei und ändern. So weit so gut:)

  2. Hi, I installed and openned de windows version and it says is 2.56.5, is that correct? shouldn't be 2.57 RC1?

  3. No raytrace GI, only approximate one - useless for photorealistic archviz :(
It seems that Autodesk or Vlado (Vray owner) pays blender team for not doing really working GI into blender.

  4. "Souldn’t we have a new splash screen? (see the contest)
    And its says 2.56.5"
These are CANDIDATES to be 2.57. No splash screen or version change until the actual release.

  5. "Souldn't haben wir einen neuen Splash-Screen? (Siehe Wettbewerb) und seine sagt 2.56.5" Diese werden die Kandidaten auf 2,57 werden. Kein Splash-Screen oder Version zu wechseln, bis die tatsächliche Freilassung.

  8. 2.56 was already very stable. I have been using it without much of a problem since 2.54 and I've noticed that it was leaps and bounds over the original alpha 0.

Now, it doesn't hurt to have an even more stable Blender doesn't it? That is the way it should be.

One thing that I do miss enormously from the older Blender is the local bevel :( and I know that many other Blender users have mentioned this concern too cause I've seen it in several Blender related places. I'm not referring to the whole bevel modifier of Blender 2.5, that's very different and useful too.

I have found myself many times starting to model in Blender 2.49b to then move to 2.56 to finish and even so I have found myself wanting to go back to the older Blender just because of that.

I hope that eventually they bring that function back to the new Blender and not only that but that it is also improved to include the option of creating all the bevels with equal distance from all the vertexes because as useful as this is in the older Blender t still needed improvement cause sometimes it distorted the bevels very badly on some edges of some models by creating bevels of unequal distances.

Sometimes it is useful when they are proportional to the polygons it is beveling like that but sometimes it's better when the bevels are all equal in length according to the amount that one assigns them with the mouse movement (or also by keyboard increment if possible for precision) and I'm sure that it can be improved to do this.

I think that given the fact that the new Blender is so superior it deserves to have a local bevel function that is worthy of it and is at the same level of the new Blender so I hope that its developers give back the users this function eventually now that they have a superior platform from which to improve in the future. I'm sure that if they did this all those users that used the local bevel will thank them a lot.

Anyway I am glad that the new Blender is reaching the point of final release. It has been many years in waiting for many people and it's a great advance in the area of 3D software particularly in the open source field cause it puts such a capable application in the hands of anybody that wants to learn 3D modeling.

I'm sure that many Blender users will feel like they will want to celebrate when it's finally released. What should we say? Perhaps Yipeeeeeee!! will be in order. :)

  9. the scripting screen layout does not need 2 consoles, one of them needs to get an info editor, this first came up with blender 2.56, when the report console moved to the info editor.
The rest seems to be great... i mean GREAT!!! like BOOM XD
    still searching for bugs ;)

  10. opened up new scene, added cube, scaled it down and made a simple fluid sim with the default cube and the new cube, baked and nothing happened, linux machine here tried on both 64 bit and 32 bit build...

  11. Network render error

    Hello.
There is an error using the network rendering feature:
    pictures are writen as
    000x.exr,
    and it tries to find
    00000x.exr
so it reports a location error. (00 missing in the names)
I have not found any other error; local rendering works fine and fast.
Thank you for this new revision.

  12. Messed around with version of Blender this evening.

What I did. Mostly a hardware check for conflicts.

    My system.

    Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit version.

    Running i7 920 with 12GB ram and quadro FX5600.

Basic .blend model rendered noticeably very fast. Faster than previous.

Graphics tablet, Wacom intuos4XL CAD with Classic Pen, Grip Pen, Airbrush, 5 Button Mouse and CAD mouse, all working perfectly inside Blender.

Ordinary trust mouse and acer keyboard, all working perfectly in Blender.

3D Connexion Spacepilot 3D SP1 and 3D Connexion SpaceExplorer both appear to function in this version, perfectly. No issues.

Bluray playback and DVD playback on LG bluray burner while rendering. Perfect playback no issues.

Ran my M-Audio Delta1010 and Terratec phase88 rack sound modules at same time Blender was rendering. No issues.

Ran same render again while transferring midi files to Alesis Fusion 8HD synthesizer. Completely smooth. Not even a delay in file conversion and then transfer of files.

Ran a render while running Cubase 5.1 with an evolution MK-361 controller keyboard. No issues.

Appears to cause no hardware conflicts at all.

Ran Sulptris at same time as blender. No issues.

So far no hardware or software conflicts.

I will try a bit of modelling and possibly some compositing on friday or saturday and report back. Seems smooth so far. A definate improvement.

Each of the "directions" were working for the Spacepilot? Did you have much trouble getting it to work? I am very excited to hear it might work as advertised with Blender! :)

  14. @ BnBGobo99,

In all honesty, both versions were smoother than in 3ds. I was extremely suprised at that and did not expect that all. 100% glitch free. Interestingly since I installed the latest Beta, I have not had to reboot the machine to keep functionality of the 3D Connexion, which is a common problem in a lot of programs.

I can happily report no issues at all with the old version of the 3Dconnexion SpacePilot 3D. My neighbour has the mouse version of it and no problems there either.

I am not great at the software problems, but I can do a good hardware check, as it is normal for me to have hardware conflicts, due to bizarre set up.

My set up is unusual and pushed to its limits, so if there was an issue it would most likely would have become apparent, very quickly.

I have found that 3D Connexion works extremely well in the last two Beta's of Blender.

I can recommend the 3Dconnexion SpacePilot 3D. You can get one these days on Ebay Germany for about 100 Euro or $100 in the USA, if you can spare it. They are as good as the later versions. I know that purists claim otherwise, but I can assure you, that in reality no one can even push them to there limits. Ensure you have a good mouse to work with them. I would recommend a trackball.

At this page you can find a complete list of 3D connexion compatable software. Blender is included.

    http://www.3dconnexion.com/supported-software/software0.html

    I hope that helps.

  15. Hey Guys I am having the worst problem while editing a mesh I cannot select vertices correctly if I attempt to select one I instead select some random vertex. If I change to wireframe mode and select vertices it works fine but with a dense mesh this is not very practical. does anyone know why this is happening? Help is really appreciated.

i had a similar problem a while ago.
After i installed the newest graphiccard-driver, the problem vanished.

Only tried it very briefly, it looks as good as 2.56. Will take it lots more spins this evening.

I too miss the local bevel, but you know how to to it locally with the modifier? (I only learned one day ago).

    1. In the left sidepanel, the "Mesh options" foldout there is a handly little dropdown called: "Edge select mode". Make it say "Tag bevel".
    2. Ctrl-right-click the edges you want to bevel. They will turn orange.
    3. Add the bevel modifier and change the limit to "Weight".

This is a bit better than downgrading to 2.49.

  17. @TheGrayK

your problem seems to be a anti aliasing don't force it on in your graphics drivers.

I don't know what graphics card you have but if you have ati make sure that anti aliasing in the catalyst control center is set to use application settings. I would think nvidia would be pretty similar too.

  18. Nemesis, can you provide more details on the 3dconnexion? How have you made it work? The driver for Blender you can download from 3dconnexion site works with Blender 2.4x only (no 2.5x) - this is known 2.5 issue.

I have noticed though, 3DConnexion released the "anywhere" driver - is it what you have used? PLEASE help... :)

    • Hi MU,

I have two drivers installed. 'Anywhere' from this webpage was installed AFTER the recommended driver.

One important thing I will point out to you about 3dconnexion.

They never work properly with anything, if they are not installed as part of the drivers on your windows machine, before installing other software. I have never got them to work correctly unless installed immediately after the operating system on a fresh installation.

Literally you install windows 7 x64, then drivers for your tablet, 3d connexion, printers and other hardware attached to your computer. After you have installed those drivers restart windows 7, even if it does not ask to. Then install programs.

If you do not install it in a fresh installation there is usually problems.

When installing, run as administrator, otherwise it will not work with a lot of programs. Ensure you tick 'launch 3dxware when windows starts' as part of the installation, otherwise it will not work properly with anything.

3dconnexion make brilliant hardware. They really need to hire someone who can write good drivers.

      I hope that helps.

      Andrea

PS: I do not like how they have changed the forum.

  19. "The splashscreen says 2.56 and is identical to the previous one… mistake? Win32"
It not a mistake. This is not yet 2.57. It's a candidate to become 2.57. It will become 2.57 when the last most cruicial bugs are fixed.

    "…But.. Still no bevel tool??"
No new modeling tools till Bmesh is in trunk. I Expect that to happen on 2.6 perhaps.

  20. Ok I Started Using Blender 2.5 and so I never Used the Old Bevel Tool until now.
I read your comments and opened Blender 2.49 and Bammo within seconds I using that Old Bevel I Loved it!
I agree with all of you the Blender development team needs to bring it back soon. I already miss it a few minutes after using it.

Any Python People able to implement this as an Addon?
    Thanks
    Scott

Does this version have the masking in the sculpt mode?
On the site redesign... I thing the comment legibility has suffered somewhat. The previous format for the comments was more easily read.
    Good luck with the redesign.

  22. I Agree with everyone about bringing back the Old Bevel Tool.
Please bring that one Back. Hard to live without it!

    thanks
    Scott

  23. It still has the problem on grow / shrink with the UI. I have already posted the problem on the tracker, but it was closed as a duplicate bug. Question: when it will be fixed?

  24. I have tried to reply to MU several times. The recent change on Blenderntaion should have been tested first.

  25. It has no export or import for .obj etc.
it still has no Bevel Weight's.

other wise every things is great so far, hope the bevel is back in before 2.57 :)

  26. If this is an April fools joke.... HAHAHAHAHA!!! Great!! But if not, the design firm needs to be fired! You don't put white text on a very light pink background.

    Alto

  27. Somebody above was talking about a "local bevel tool." I just want 2.56's current Bevel Modifier to work properly! It applies a massive bevel, but the bevel size adjustment slider doesn't seem to work at all. Do hope this is fixed in the final 2.57.

  28. Linux 64 bit, bevel works just fine, also sliders. Would be wonderful if there was possibility to give weighted vertex groups for it, in same way than in smooth modifier.

  29. Vertex selection seems strange in the 64bit version I got.
When limit to visible is enabled, using the box or circle select seems to choose opposite verts, or entire faces. Turn it off and proper verts are selected.

  30. Hi all,

Very exciting. I noticed some new stuff in plugins; cool. At first install I ran across a few small issues, so I completely removed 2.56a and installed from scratch, looks like it fixed the problems I experienced. I'm looking up a final issue of objects behind other objects appearing in front of them while running the game engine. I've heard of this before with incompatible drivers, so I'll make sure I'm up to date and try a few more tests before I cry foul.

I'm liking it so far. Great job! (and I can't wait to give the svg import a try. One question though, Will we be able to use svg textures?)

    Thank you.

Hi, I'm somewhat confused nemesis, you said on the 1st April that your 3Dconnexion mouse worked with no issues on this 2.57 cand release.I run both a spacepilot pro and space navigator and neither work on this release.I've been in touch with 3Dconnexion and there telling me that there software does not support this version of blender, there software supports blender 2.47 - 2.49 only.If yours work with this version, either i'm doing something wrong or your very looky.purhaps you can tell us all how you've managed to get them working.
