Short Film - Happy Hour

48

Happy Hour is a short film produced by five first year animation students, using blender 2.5.

The Happy Hour team Writes:

The Big Day has finally arrived! We’re happy to announce that Happy Hour is at last finished and out there for everyone to enjoy! It has been a most rewarding learning process and we all agree it was definitely worth nine months of our lives to see it finally complete!

This is an animated short film project, created by a team of five enthusiastic students. The short film goes by the name ‘Happy Hour’. The project was inspired by a funny story we ended up talking about in a bar, while enjoying our beers. Eventually it turned out to be the topic of our first 3D animated short film project.

  2. Reaaaally nice !! guys it looks pro !
I would like to know which 3d soft you are learning and why did you choose Blender instead of this one ?
Anyway you did great job, if only I could reach the same quality. Thanks for sharing, i'am gonna send it to my friends :P

  3. Very true observation, particularly regarding taste. Beer is really only on hire at best :))

    Very nice animation

Jalik: We were being taught 3ds Max at the time. After one course in animation it became clear that we would have to look to some other software if we wanted to create an animated short. :) For that reason (and numerous others) we chose Blender.

  5. AhAh! Funny idea, and great realisation. Congratulations !

I expected the end since the top view of the toilets, but waiting for the confirmation was part of the pleasure !o)

  6. That was great, you guys! Great usage of Blender's internal renderer, great animation, and you executed the direction of this short plot well. Wow, if this is just your first year, imagine where you'll all be like be graduation! Good job!

  7. Giovanni Lanfiuti on

    Really good!
You managed to do a shortmovie without stunning graphic or amazing animation... That's really good, for same reasons it remembers me ToyStory...
    Really great!

  8. Awesome work, a really funny story!

The character animation could use some work, but everything else is just superb and really shows you can actually do excellent stuff productionwise with Blender.

Blenders and technical tidbits aside : most importantly the idea is super funny and the storytelling is fantastic. It's truly a rare occasion that I laugh out loud while watching an animation.

Loved the pour-drink-pay-repeat cycle. Reminiscent of the pills in 'pi' but more amusing.

Title sequence was cool - don't have to pause to read it, it just sweeps you right in.

    Mystery beer, indeed!

  10. Steve Cameron on

So the ending coming but absolutely loved the film. Great job guys. I really liked the drunks walk and stumble.. good stuff.

  11. Well, for first years students I have to say that everything you now need to improve
is the animation which is indeed the most difficult in 3D animations.
But as for the rest texturing, lighting etc it is perfect...
I cannot wait to see what you will produce in the remaining years but whatever you do
please keep Blender as your main tool.
May the power of the free and open source be with you.

  12. FELICITACIONES!!!

  13. Wow, really great guys, you should be proud. Best part to me was storytelling, had me interested the entire time. Everything else was so good you didn`t notice it (ideal).

  14. Alex Delderfield (AD-Edge) on

    Loved it

Was stressing at the end because it was almost over and I had no idea what kind of punchline could be fit into such a small amount of time, but it worked, didnt see it coming :)
Just backs up the phrase 'drinking piss' too.

A lot of the animation was spot on as well. Good work guys.

  15. Congratulations! Very nice movie!

Someone could answear me why sometimes appears some shadows with problem? 1:01 - 1:06
I would like how to remove this kind of problem, in my own animations.
There's a problem with the shirt, the geometry goes into the body. Same problem with Sintel, so it's look a common hard problem to solve.

But the movie is very well done, like the people said before, the flying cameras are very good.

Here in Brasil we have Skol, a beer that tastes like that. = )

This five guys are very talended, i'm waiting more movies.

  16. bartlett hall on

Well done...story and pace is really good - and I'd love to show it to my drinking buddies. Of course, love that its done in Blender!

  17. Hmm, my beer may not taste quite as good this weekend.

Seriously, first year students?! How come I wasn't that talented when I was a student.
Expect big things from you guys in the future. (Props for blender use too)

  18. Greetings! I loved this short film! I do have a silly question however concerning the text: was that done in Blender or in After Effects? Thanks for your time!

  19. Great stuff guys. Perhaps if you have time you can put together a tutorial or making-of going over your project. Really great job!

  20. Great!

    I still like beer.

However, every water molecule was part of a human body before, so this short is not that scary like drinking dead people ;-)
