Advanced Blender Course at the Leipzig School of Design

39

Sebastian König looks back on his introductory Blender class last February, and forward to the next one: Advanced Blender from April 8 - 10.

Sebastian writes:

The Leipzig School of Design has already hosted one Blender course this year and it turned out to be a great success! So they want to continue to provide Germany with high quality Blender classes, and I have the joy to teach there. Equipped with twelve powerful 27" iMacs it's a great place to teach and to learn!

The introductory course in February was a lot of fun for the participants and me. We managed to go through all the essential topics like interface, object manipulation, mesh modeling, modifiers, materials, textures, lighting, animation, rendering and even the basics of compositing! Of course that was a lot of information for 3 days but I think it went really well and the students have now a solid base to build on and to explore Blender on their own.

So now it's time to take it to the next level and have a look at some more advanced workflows and techniques. The advanced course for Blender at the Leipzig School of Design will cover topics like topology, sculpting, displacement baking, projection painting, lighting techniques, advanced materials and compositing. Or any other topic! Of course I will adapt the contents of the class to the participants' needs and wishes.

The course is € 550,- plus taxes, But if you're short on money, you should definitely check out the government aid (link 1, link 2), which is available for these courses!

Participants for this course should already have a solid knowledge of the basics of Blender, and although we will be glad to welcome international guests, I should note that the course will be in german, obviously. :-)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  8. Well 550€ is way to much for an open source software course (2days) even if the knowledge is worth it. i am disapointed. i could go studying 6 months in germany for that money or should i say germoney! im german so dont get me wrong :). 2 days 550€ ( maybe 10 people?!) ?= way to much money..
i willl offer advanced blender courses in german/english/Dutch and japaneese simultaniasly for that money.

ps: if i go studying for that money i could learn how to programm (python,c++....) and get way more advanced

  9. Thanks everybody! :-)
I hope I can post some results after the course. After the first one I forgot to ask the students for some blendfiles after we finished. But there where some very cool results!
I'm looking forward to the next one!
    Cheers!

  10. Haha, not for this one, lulu.:-)
We germans need some Blender brainfood in our mother language too! Almost every tutorial is english already.
But actually the idea is not bad.
If there are enough interested potential participants who want an english course, I could do that too. I'm sure the LSoD would be open for some international courses. We've got some nice pubs there too. Luckily without Mastika. :D

  11. Hi Sebastian and all others.

I'm glad to say I will be joining the next course again - and looking forward to it.

    See you in Leipzig!
