LuxRender 0.8 will be packed with new features and improvements. Get the first Release Candidate today!

The LuxRender has just released the first release candidate for the upcoming 0.8 version.
Changes since v0.7.1 (also check the new in 0.8 wiki page):
- New GUI options to save render on demand (most file types are supported), with or without separate light groups, statistics overlay, ...
- new glossytranslucent material, initially developed for better leaves rendering
- film response curves to emulate traditional cameras color response (some curve are for black&white films too)
- GPU acceleration for path tracing when sampling one light at a time
- render queue to process several files in batch mode from the GUI
- support for split vertices in mesh subdivision (mesh will no longer open up in the presence of UV/normal seams when subdivided)
- new light groups color handling for better accuracy when adjusting light color
- outlier rejections (this will eat slightly more memory and slow the render a bit, but the noise level will be reduced significantly)
- finally usable exphotonmap integrator
- new band texture to enable complex gradients
- new volume scattering feature atop the volumetric absorption introduced in v0.7 (only homogeneous volumes for now)
- much improved ply mesh loader (supports quads, texture coordinates, subdivision, ...) and export to ply for various exporters instead of lux native (faster export and loading)
- on the fly microdisplacement to allow very high subdivision depths without any memory impact
- lots of bug fixes and improvements

is this allready gpu´d ?
or just pathtracing ?
@ Tweakingknobs, according to the LuxRender wiki:
"LuxRender 0.8 includes a new, GPU-accelerated mode, based on the LuxRays library and tests done with SmallLuxGPU. That is to say, this is the beginnings of “BigLuxGPU”.
GPU acceleration in LuxRender is based on OpenCL and can work with any OpenCL supported graphics card, as well as using a machine’s regular processor.
This mode is still experimental, and does not support all the features of LuxRender, such as instancing or volumes."
Looking forward to the stable version. =)
in this release only the pathtracer engine is accelerated by the gpu but the gpu acceleration will be extended in the future.
Hybrid rendering is still very very slow.
Great improvements!
Wow, already? Nice!
"on the fly microdisplacement"
Nice!
Nice! By the way, can anyone tell if there's a place where I can find the pylux binaries that work with this build? I tried using the one from this thread on LuxRender Forum , but it doesn't seem to work anymore. If it helps, I'm using the latest build from filiciss on Graphicall, which includes LuxBlend.
Thanks in advance!
well...that's good news!...thank you developers!...:-)
microdisplacements! you rock lux render
@Liquid Orange:
what does "very very slow" mean? Is it even slower than the traditional CPU mode?
@someone who is familiar with luxRender:
"GPU acceleration in LuxRender ...... is still experimental, and does not support instancing or volumes"
Is that to say, LuxRender v0.8RC1 supports instancing or volumes but only in CPU mode?
What is the difference between SmallLuxGPU and luxRnder except for the GPU aspects?
wow, this is the start of a game changer era!
awesomeness
tried hybrid renderer for the first time and got about 5 times speed increase and I don't even have a good card just a lowly gts 450
@Rodrigo Silva: The Windows archives for RC1 contains an up-to-date pylux. Look in the PyLux/Python3 subfolder.
Great job Jeanphi LOVE IT, I've been using it for weeks without fail and luxblend25 rocks.
Oyster:Smalluxgpu does not have all the materials. It is blazing fast but only supports glossy materials and a little more but that's it.
Darn! my mac's a 10.4! i can't use it!
Good! Great job, you guys!
@ TWS Admin.:
Try running it on a Windows emulator. Here's a free and open-source one (http://www.winehq.org/). Hope this helps.
@oyster: Correct, features like volumes or instancing only work with the CPU-only classic mode.
@Asbjørn: Thanks, works like a charm!
GPU in normal Luxrender? Gotta check that out!
Nice work, it's a huge improvement over the last time I tried Lux. Downloaded the latest build and got to rendering somehing within a few minutes. Quite easy, nice user experience. But compared with certain other renderers out there....still dog slow. I will keep my fingers crossed for small lux gpu to get big soon. :)
@Rodrigo Silva: Excellent, glad it worked out. I'll add some details to the download page to highlight that pylux is included.
@3dementia: Glad to hear about the smooth experience.
LuxRender v0.8RC1 vs luxrender classic
in the classic luxrender 0.7 i got 130ksamples/s and in 0.8 i got 250ksamples/s only using a fraction of gpu
on the same model of a Audi car from blend swap.
but it is still to slow compared to other renderers hope better use of gpu in next release.
i get >2000ksamples/s in smallluxgpu on the same audi car model
what is the future of the internal blender renderer? will luxrender get intergrated in to blender?
i am hoping for a gpu accelerated blender.
