Sketched Christmas Story

36

Chris Monson (CMonson) writes:

This piece was made as video backing for a live Christmas performance for around 8000 people. The song being played is Chris Botti’s version of Hallelujah. This piece was created over a 2 week span with all source material created in Blender, and some post processing and masking done in After Effects.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Yes, very nice. Would love to see some details about how it was made, because it's so different than the normal output I've seen from blender.

  2. Simple great, simple wonderfull, very nice...

    HOHO HOooooooooooooo...

  3. That was good! Very artistic usage of Blender! I like seeing someone using Blender to render such an illustrative style. Was the Freestyle rendering engine used to achieve that illustrative effect?

  4. Very nice!
Not to lessen your good job, but with that music ... it's cheating! The music is so wonderful that you get into a "make me dream" attitude automatically!
    Happy holidays!

  5. late to the party as usual. i enjoyed the style. i think vignetting is getting to be a bit old however. it's like photoshopping lens flares or something, and i don't think necessarily fits with this theme or feeling.

for being a story, however, i couldn't find any. a guy being watched by sheep. bunch of guys waiting for the camels to move, and then two guys looking at a box in a sheep paddock. all of which is fine, i was just disappointed i spent 3 minutes watching camera animation within a still life of nothing happening and no story. wow that sounds harsh, but i can't say it any other way. the style was refreshing, i just wish it had been put to an effective use.

  6. i think that this is what what was meant to be: a Christmas crib with no animation
this way there is more Christmas feeling
of course with a lot of time can be found an animation fit to this fact, but i like so much the idea!
