David Revoy, Art Director of Sintel, has won a prestigious CGChoice award by CGSociety. His (2D) work is a wonderful interpretation of Alice in Wonderland with countless hidden details. David describes the creation process in great detail.
From CGSociety:
As Art Director of the Blender Foundation's 'Sintel' Open-Source film project, David Revoy wanted to 'stay busy' and decided to enter the 'Alice in Wonderland' 3DVF contest just after finishing the authoring of his DVD tutorials titled 'Chaos&Evolutions'
"During Sintel, I had to find a way to use only Open-Source software to do all the concept art," he says. "That's why I learned how to use a Linux system's Mint , GIMP , Mypaint and Al.Chemy instead of my Photoshop and Painter.
That wasn't easy because it is so different. The workflow is not the same at all."

this is very distinguished!
I'm learning alot from his Chaos and evolution DVD.
Outstanding work. Congrats.
Go David! You are our hero man. But isn't this old news? I thought this picture had already won awards? Did it win something else?
Gratz david, well deserved award and interesting article :)
@3dementia the article on his piece is now out, think that's the reason it's featured on bn
Stoned picture :))
I like it except Cheshir Cat's face and Rabbit's face too.
In these transitions between different scenes in one picture I recognize something ;)
Anyway - I'm a lot weaker against this awesome art!
Well... it's "old"... but it's still "Fresh" :)
My favorite Alice image ever, congratulations!
They should had made it looking like this from the start :)
Great work, David!
Hi and thanks Bart for publishing this to share with the Blender community :)
@ all and friends : thanks for the comments a lot :)
@3dementia : The award is effectively old ( july/august 2010 ) , the fresh news as said month3D is the publishing 2 days ago of the 'making of' done as a CGs article. And thanks CGs for proposing me a making of with 100% 2D FLOSS. A big CG proof industry is not closed and still curious about FLOSS.
Oh, and for those who are curious to see the full resolution picture ; you can watch it here :

Hi! David great work ;)
It's an interesting image. But I've looked at his other works and I have to say I like some of them a lot more than this one! Some are really great.
Mypaint is really great.!!
David,

I'm still staring at you artwork... gonna download it and stare some more... And try to figure out how you did this through Gimp, Mypaint, and Al.Chemy.
Awesome stuff!! Congratulations David.
