Blender animation competition "Alien Life" on Renderfarm.fi

7

Renderfarm.fi hosts an animation competition - deadline is January 31st and you can win a copy of 'Essential Blender' or a Renderfarm.fi t-shirt.

Julius Tuomisto writes:

I'm happy to announce the first Renderfarm.fi Blender animation and rendering competition simply titled "Alien Life". Largely inspired by Renderfarm.fi's BOINC heritage and the recent NASA sponsored research findings at Lake Mono, this animation competition is open between the 6th of December 2010 and the 31st of January 2011 (closing time at 11PM CET+1).

In order to take part in the competition, a session must have the tag "Alien Life" written clearly somewhere in its description field. All animations of at least 25 frames or more that are uploaded before the deadline, meet the normal terms of use / policy for rendering on Renderfarm.fi and have a minimum of ten votes are applicable for prizes. A special competition and gallery page has been set up to display all the relevant information and competition entries. The prizes include 5 copies of Essential Blender by Roland Hess and 5 authentic Renderfarm.fi t-shirts. Furthermore, the overall winner picked by the users will receive a copy of the awesome "Chaos and Evolutions" Training DVD by David Revoy.

As has been proven with the recent scientific findings, we need to keep a very open mind as to what "Alien Life" is. It's now up to the animators to convince us the volunteers what the term actually implies. Now with these words I wish all participants happy Blendering! :)

  1. @Remy: Is this problem related somehow to the Renderfarm.fi uploader or just Blender?

    @dragoneex: Cool. :)

    @blurdude: Yes just animation, we currently do not support sounds in Blender and currently this way just makes the most sense as there's currently no easy way for us to enable users to post the post-processed animations. The next competition will hopefully have sounds in it as well. Let's just say that the reason why it's silent animations is that there is no sound in space. :)

  2. you know, alien is different from extraterrestrial. It could just be an animal native on earth that is rather alien from our point of view... Personally, I think that is just as interesting as a subject.

  3. @Julius: well, actually i'm glad i don't need to do sound effects coz its a tonne more work. but i like the idea that silent animations of alien life form means that there is no sound in space :D
