Dikta - Goodbye (Official Music Video)

22

Hjalti Hjálmarsson writes:

The band Dikta, which is one of the most popular bands in Iceland at the moment, approached our company Miðstræti wanted create a music video for their song "Goodbye." They didn't have anything specific in mind and gave us complete control over which artistic and story-wise direction best suited the song.

The basic story and concept came from Björn Daníel Svavarsson who did all the design, modelling, texturing and after effects, while Hjalti Hjálmarsson did the animation and cinematography.

We wanted the story to reflect the song but at the same time be open to interpretation, so every person viewing it would see something different. Our programs of choice were Blender 2.49, using FarmerJoe for renderfarm, and After Effects CS4 for all post production.

Dikta's album "Get it Together" has reached Gold in Iceland, you can check out more of their music on MySpace. You can follow Hjalti's adventures on twitter and find more of Danni's designs on his website.

All the best, Hjalti

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Great artistry!
Moving lyrics goes hand in hand with fragile character.
A lonely voice with a guitar. So precise...
    Thank you!!!

  2. Very artistic animation. Commendations above well-deserved. :)

But I'm worried if your client was happy with the result. If I had asked someone else to create a music video for me, I would expect the video to help my fans remember the appealing melodies of my music, rather than distracting them. If your viewers remember the song at the end of the video, it's a well-made music video. If they can't remember what they heard but what they've seen, you have ended up creating an another wonderful short--something the client might not have asked you for.

    I hope that's not the case. :)

  3. I'm fan of this kind of music videos. Tells a story and goes well with the song, simple yet emotional.
Now I'm having LSS (Last song syndrome). The song continuously plays in my mind even after the video already end. ^^
