cross eyed mode works great. much better than anaglyph glasses.
I'm really glad we have the option of cross eyed, no glasses, no funny color! Parallel is good too, it is more relaxed in my opinion but I can't get my eyes to go it for full sized video.

Cross-eyed... sounds good, but I cannot trick my eyes to do so... (but anaglyph is also quite reasonable for short YouTube videos, altough quite weary to watch, unlike the polarized projection at the conference which I could watch many times without any fatigue)

Maybe can you also make a Blu-ray 3D version you can burn yourself on a BD-R? (which are quite cheap now, only a few bucks!)

If you can't go cross eyed and don't want to loose colors with anaglyph glasses, you can try prism glasses or better, stereoscopes with adjustable mirrors.

Now it looks more awesome! I can compare this movie (I mean about the impact on my perception) with Avatar 3d!

@J. I wish I could master a BluRay-3D myself, but there are still no open source tools to do this. First it would need a h264 encoder capable of MVC (Multi View Coding). x264 can't do it (yet), and DarkShikari has no interest to implement it in the near future. And then you'd require open source BluRay authoring tools, which are still non-existent. I contacted Imagion (makers of the Elephants Dream HD-DVD), if they're interested in making a BluRay-3D.
@Frédéric Lopez or you could just learn to cross your eyes. You'll find some use for it, like looking at particles in blender!
lol complete coincidence i have anaglyph glasses sitting next to my computer because i've been playing videogames in 3d for the past few days (long explanation) but YEAH PERFECT TIMING :D
just saw it! very well done, the 3d wasn't always intimidating but it had its moments, great work!
@Thomas I know how to look at 3D movies and pictures cross-eyed but it's quite uncomfortable and causes eye fatigue in the end. At home I've got shutter glasses and a 3D display to view 3D content, but I though it would be less expensive to try prisms/mirrors glasses for those who don't own 3D equiment.
Nice! But the stereoscopic space is not right... The 'eye' cameras are IMO too far apart for a realistic look - it needs to be subtler.
Also, the initial scene (switchboard on white background) just seems to have 2 layers, nothing in between. But that is probably due to how the scene was built at the time.
@Lars: Funny, another guy said, the stereo base was too small. Im saying stereo base, not camera distance, because the cam distance depends on both length of lens and convergence depth with the base as a multiplier.
I think what's really needed is something like a volume control, but for the stereo base. Implementing that is feasible, it just takes some computing power on the player side. The stereoscopic movie would come with a number of eyes and precalculated interpolation data. From that the player would generate some eye-position interpolated image, where the viewer could set his individual stereo width.
It's simply very well one, you used James Cameron's trick of converging on faces in close shots, right?

@J. it's certainly not Cameron's invention to converge onto the point of interest. But as well as convergence is also the parallax angle. If the convergence get's closer you've to reduce the separation, to keep this parallax within limits. This is where my patches to Blender come into play.
