Blender Nominated for Packt Open Source Graphics Software Award

41

Possibly with your help, Blender has been nominated for the Packt Open Source Graphics Software Award. The winner of this prize will receive $2500 - money that the Blender Foundation can put to good use!

The other nominees are Gimp, InkScape, jmonkeyengine and Scribus.

You can vote now. By voting you'll also have a chance to win an Amazon Kindle e-reader (which ironically enough is a very closed platform).

Voting ends on November 5th, and the winners will be announced on November 15th.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. 5 package in finalist,

Choose the project you would like to win: *
    Blender
    Gimp
    InkScape
    jmonkeyengine
    Scribus

IMO, that why I have to vote. Not for money but for Blender and Devs.
    I want to show how much I ___ :P.

  2. sure the blender foundation would do something useful with the prize, but aren't $2500 peanuts for them? the blender foundation is actually pretty rich compared to the other projects listed there.

  3. Rule : Vote for your favorite Open Source Graphics Software

What a strange things that you not vote for your favorite
but vote cause you think, expected they may not have enough money.
Open Source not mean poor or lazy.

think about 1 year of blender compare to other pagkages
and vote for yourself not vote for others That is Democracy.

    ...Close your eyes ...ask yourself
What is my favorite Open Source Graphics Software?
Which one work hard all time, open hearth friendly community and deserves to win?

    then Vote...

  4. uggi: Peanuts? :P
Rich? Rather enough money to keep everything going and flexible.
I know they can use it really well for their projects.

  5. I voted for Blender, but this could be a very close vote as there are a lot of Gimp users out there, me included. The reason i voted Blender is because of the speed of development and the way the devs listen to their users. I don't think any other software in the list can match that :-)
    Good luck Blender!

  6. I thought Blender was a shoe-in for this, then I saw Gimp on the list! Get out and vote for Blender! Gimp we love you too, but.....

  7. @3dementia
but....it hasn't got that community spirit that Blender has. And they don't listen to their users. It is great software, very powerful, but i think Blender is just that little bit more special.

  8. guys you can many times
kjust use e-mail adresses of your fiends ;)
did it 3 times already not going to stop sonn
blender would win any way ( i hope)

  9. Hi am harmony from nigeria, i voted for blender, i wish i could vote for gimp. But i know if blender go places it will automaticaly drag gimp with it.@jan larmann:unscropulous activities during elections is bad. That is the problem that the nigerian goverment is trying to fight

  10. Well, of course Blender got my vote!
Although i use GIMP a bit more often than Blender, i think the money will be better used in the hands of the Blender Foundation.
