CG Masters Live, 2 training DVDs for Pre-Order

18

Christopher Plush (Yo Frankie!) and Lee Salvemini (Elephants Dream, Sintel) have launched CG Masters, a new publishing company for professional Blender training DVD's.

They have just announced their first two DVD's, "Environment Modeling and Texturing" and "Ninja Character Creation". Both of them can be pre-ordered now for $60. They ship early november.

Christopher and Lee are also giving away some pretty nice free videotutorials.

Environment Modeling and Texturing

CG Master Christopher Plush takes you through each stage of modeling, texturing, and lighting an abandoned warehouse level. Learn how to create this realtime environment in its entirety including environment assets, and learn how to use the new Blender 2.5 series while you're at it.

Over 35 hours has been recorded for this DVD and edited to an extensive 14-hour, voice-narrated video tutorial taking you through every single step of production. Select segments have been timelapsed, but nothing has been edited out. This is the entire creation process start to finish, and it covers all the tricks of the trade for realtime content creation.

Ninja Character Creation

Blender Certified Trainer Lee Salvemini has recorded, from start to finish, modeling a character suitable for a pre-rendered game cutscene or short film. In the DVD Lee will show you the tools and techniques used in Blender to create the character with helpful pop-up hints and complete audio commentary. Ninja character concept by David Revoy, Art Director of Sintel.

Bonus chapters include rendering the model for client presentation, techniques to master edge loops, and an introduction to modeling in Blender 2.5.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. This looks great! I've been waiting for a walkthrough like this, partly for the challenge and partly just to compare methods. Looks like I've got my new diversion for the week!

  2. It looks very tempting, but I agree with Grandmaster B that 60USD is too much. I understand you want to earn something with it, but it looks to me now that a lot of people will pass (or download it without paying) with this price. At least, I'll pass for this price.

  3. Good god, i thought it was $60 for both. I have just been to the website to have a look as i was interested (thinking it was for both) and i find it is $60 EACH. It's far too much!!

  4. Awesome! And you can even order one for download only, I love it when people do this! Already pre-ordered the ninja one for me :)

  5. I remember the time when it was hard to find good quality Blender tutorials.
Nowadays, with all the great stuff popping out from everywhere, it's hard to find the time to follow all of them.

The site looks clean and sexy.
    Just 2 quick tips:
    - make the logo at the top a link to the home page
    - and the big picture on the home page a link to the related stuff.

I think $60 is not cheap, but not expensive either.
A few years ago I would have bought it.

    Wish you the best :)

  6. @Cortique
That's incredibly disrespectful. Can you imagine slaving over a project only to have someone steal it from you?
Making a training DVD takes hours and hours of hard work and the authors deserve to be paid for it.

Blender is free. Lee and Chris' time are not.

  7. Yes Andrew that is right,
but you make great tutorials for free...
The quality of the free tutorial on their site are a million light year behind yours.

You have showed people that you were skilled and willing to give great
and incredible piece of work, they have not. (And do not mention Sintel.)

However I do agree with you I would not download these tutorials because they
simply have no real value in my eyes.

Blender is free but You have got to work hard to sell your work:

Give me something that has real value and I will give you back without
any discussion, just like I do for :

Andy. G, Kernon Dillon, Tony Mullen and of Course Andrew Price.

So you think you work on Sintel and then you can just sell a video tutorial for $60...
no it does not work like that unfortunatly.

On the other hand, if people leave excellent reviews on the real time Environment Modeling and Texturing,
I might give it a go.

    Good luck guys.

  8. Bit of a late reply but I'd agree with redbyte.. it takes a lot more than just capturing your screen for five minutes with "ermm", "ahh", "oh wait that's not right" to make a video a tutorial and the author a 'teacher'.
