Reel: Colin Levy

28

Colin Levy, director of Sintel, has published his reel. Cool stuff, but the question remains - what is the magician going to do?

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Blending BriGuy on

You know, every time I see something promising like this, I just know there's that one guy in the background waiting to make his usual comments about how he has "never seen anything of professional quality" made in Blender. I guess some people just take a position and won't budge from it. So I will just preemptively say, excellent reel there!!

  2. Looks awesome, and I would dream to have a reel like this someday. Just one constructive criticism if I may, and please don't flame, it's meant to be helpful - The one scene at:23 where Sintel is running - the weight of her feet just seem a little light here. I might choose a different moment there. Maybe it's just me though! :) Ok I know, everyone is a critic! :)

  3. The disapearing Act is on his vimeo account so you can see for yourselves what happens, its actually quite amusing :)

  4. Oh wow, I was wondering where all the hits on vimeo were coming from! Didn't check BlenderNation today. :)

Thanks for posting, and thanks for the comments guys!

@justaguy, good point-- I think the main reason I chose that moment from Sintel is because those two shots are some of the few shots in the movie that I animated personally. So even though it's not the best animation, it's in there cause I did it. :P

  5. Nice music :P
    And looking good.

Not sure what is directed in this video.
But I don't really know what a director does anyway, if he's not the actor coach.

  6. Hi Colin !

I followed your progress since the early age of Peerless Productions, even before your hilarious "Suburban Plight", and I can say that you can be proud !

    Congratulations !

    Philippe.

  7. Really top-notch reel there! Let this once and for all silence all the "Blender is just a toy" critics out there. If a student can do this with Blender in the pipeline, a professional crew can easily turn out top quality work.

  8. The music at the end, plus the logo for his website evoke an image of a giant
Colin attacking the empire state building.

  9. Colin, I've been watching your productions for years now. You have imagination, attention to detail, and expertise. Best wishes for you.
