Kite Gen

18

Igor Sabbetti told us about an Italian television program "Superquark" which features an experimental wind generator with the images of  "Carousel" made by Igor Sabbetti and Riccardo Covino using Blender 2.52, Gimp and Inkscape. They were using blenderRender renderfarm. Some parts of the production were made with 3DS Max and Vray - these were supervised by Luca Bonavita.

Note: see below for a list of Blender appearances in this video.

Here's the actual timings, thanks to Luca Bonavita (mindrones).

  1. That's awesome~ Not just the good usage of Blender, GIMP, and Inkscape, but also the Kite Gen idea in general! You don't have to speak Italian to see that this is a pretty interesting idea--using high-altitude kites to catch the stronger winds up high in the sky to generate energy on the giant "Carousel" mechanism (which is a generator, presumably). Neat! Thumbs up, Igor and Riccardo!

  2. Yeah, awesome idea for large empty areas! I don't understand Italian speech... Can somebody tell about which working height is necessary for this kitegen station?

  3. Yay, I think I actually understand what that talker said. :)

really looks like a promising project and yay for 2:24 mins of blender.

tha909: if nobody posted before me, I'm 6th which is 1000 times closer :P jk

  4. If you've been flying a kite, you will know there happen some wind is hitting to the ground. That's nasty for building this inside a forest.

  5. Has anybody noticed the error in this announcement? There is no version 2.52. 2.50 i nearing the end of development, but is it released yet? No, the downloadable version at blender.org is 2.49. Sorry all.

  6. i like my idea better.... have satellite type craft capture solar energy (which is stronger since it hasn't gone thru the atmosphere) and store it in batteries (or as i like to call them.... energon cubes) then as the batteries get filled, the craft can shoot them down to earth.

  7. Amazing, I always knew that free software will save the world. This could be the cleanest source of energy. This project MUST be prioritized for the sake of the Humankind !

  8. Wow this is amazing...

Hey Oscar, energon cubes?? is that transformer stuff?? :) Nice idea but what if all the batteries used up. Somebody has to send empty batteries to the outerspace which required a lot of fuel. And how do you catch those falling batteries? it may hurt somebody on earth you know LOL :D

  9. The speaker says that the kite will reach 2000 meters, and then the base rewinds back for another trip.
The kite is controlled by a software that receives two kite's accelerometers data via radio.
All the system is much cheaper than a standard eolic base and produces more energy.
