Syntheyes Complete Training

19

Sebastian König told us about his Syntheyes training. While this one is only about Syntheyes, the second part which will come out in September will be geared toward Blender compositing so they give a 30% discount coupon for this tutorial. Sebastian also sent us a video demoing the Blender-Syntheyes workflow and some other results.

Hello everybody!

I am happy to announce a new video tutorial on cmiVFX: Syntheyes Complete Training.

For those of you who don't know it, Syntheyes is an extremely fast, yet quite affordable (compared to the PFtrack or Boujou) matchmoving software. But it doesn't only do camera-tracking, you can also use it for set-reconstruction, calculating and eliminating lens-distortion or do object-tracking with it. It is an impressive piece of software developed by Russ Andersson at www.ssontech.com. And it works extremely well with Blender, so if anybody is searching for a fast and easy way to insert 3d objects into some real life footage, Syntheyes is a great solution.

There will also be a second tutorial coming out in september that will make use of the tracking-data and footage from this tutorial, and that second tutorial will be all about Compositing with Blender. It will cover renderlayers, multipass-rendering and node-compositing and teach you how to composite CGI into camera-footage. So if anybody is interested in that, these will be two great resources of information on how to do professional VFX with Blender and Syntheyes.

And because the second tutorial is geared towards Blender-users, cmiVFX agreed to give the Blender-Community a discount for the Syntheyes tutorial now.
So if anybody wants to purchase it at the store can use the Coupon Code "Blender3D30" to get 30% off. That offer will end on september 1st.

  1. It's a great introduction to Syntheyes and completely worth the money. Now I'm waiting for the integration course with Blender.

  2. This tutorial looks great ! I have a SynthEyes license, and I like this software, but so far, I have not used it much, and really under its possibilities.

I'm quite sure that this video will bring me at a better level with SynthEyes !

I will put it on my purchase list !

  3. Just bought in. Cool website and player set up.
Looking forward to pissing my wife off by spending more time
    in front of the computer.

"What dear? You want a divorce? Okay, Half? heck no,
just take it all just leave me my iMac and camera. You can have the rest. See ya."

  4. @ROUBAL : you're telling my story :)

I bought Syntheyes a couple of month ago, used it once, put it aside with a "investigate further" note. I just bought the video series and watched it. Great stuff and very understandable. I would like to be able to download it, though. Watching this while waiting for the train (and in the train) would be great. That does not seem to be possible.

  5. Same question as Christian -

The video looks great and I am dead keen to get it however are you only able to view it online? -

viewing and skipping through this much video online would seem quite difficult. -

  6. It is online, but it has chapter markers on the timeline so it is not difficult to go through and come back to.
You register, you have an account which allows you to see free videos as well as the paid ones.
    It's kinda cool actually.

  7. Alex Delderfield (AD-Edge) on

I saw this on CGTalk in the Blender section and I was instantly interested, Ive been thinking about purchasing Syntheyes sometime soon and Sebastion Ive watched all of your previous tracking videos a week or 2 ago with great interest.

Will definitely look to invest in this tutorial!

My only question - in buying the first tutorial im guessing it doesnt include the second composting one you plan to do soon as well?

  8. @DuHast: Thanks, that's good to hear!
@FloridaJo: Lol! Thanks! Hey, but I don't want to be responsible for any divorces!
@Christian Lehmann & @matteo: Yeah, that's the old story with cmiVFX: No downloads, sorry for that! But as FloridaJo pointed out, the player is really not that bad, and I never had problems with it. You can easily scrub forwards&backwards, and there are chapters too.
@AD-Edge: Cool, thanks! But it's true, the Syntheyes-Training does not include the Blender-Tutorial. But that's why for the Blender-Users there is coupon code Blender3D30 to get 30% off at the store (until september 1st).
However, if you just want to purchase the next compositing-tut, the tracks, export-scripts and footage are included in that so that you can follow easily without having watched the Syntheyes tutorial.

@all: Thanks a lot for your nice words! :-)
And don't hesitate do post critique or comments! And even more so I am very excited of what you guys come up with when you use the footage to track and composite some nice CG into it!!

  9. Very nice videos !

On the other hand, I'm probably gonna sound uneducated, but I can't really understand the difference between Syntheyes and something like PfHoe which is like 80€. They look pretty similar to me in the results (there even are vids made with Blender as there is apparently an exporter too) except for the huge price difference...
Could someone give me a brief explanation please ? Tx !

  10. actually, i forgot to say that im waiting for part 2 next month before purchasing it, that means i,ll miss the discount, but nevermind, your efforts should be rewarded. Waiting for part two.
