Packt launch Open Source Graphics Software Awards

13

Packt is not only relaunching its fifth year CMS open source award but also embracing 4 new categories for the rest of other Open Source projects.

One category Blender users would love to nominate their most favorite softwares is the Open Source Graphics Software category. (Or why not the Most Promising Open Source Project one instead?) The nomination will end by September 17 and voting will begin on September 27.

"The winner of the Open Source Graphics Software category will win a $2,500 prize fund, while the First Runner-Up will receive $1,000 and the Second runner-Up $500."

  1. Don't we already have winner...BLENDER!!!
Please Don't Go For GIMP...I Love Gimp But I Think Its Quite Developed For Static 2D Images...

  2. I just voted Blender. No doubt Blender is the best open source graphics software. GIMP is nice but not for serious tasks like print design (no real CMYK support).
    Go Blender, go.

  3. Voted and I did Blender, not because I'm an fanboy, but I truly believe Blender has so many more uses for me in my life than any other software I own!!

  4. I nominated Povray. Because Blender has all the attention it needs already. Af all I tried, Povray 3.7 would be the best external renderer available for Blender. All the features that LuxRender is going for are already in without any noise and so much faster.

  5. Well, for the best Graphic sofware, i think Blender is the best choice, c'mon :)

But there is another very interesting category that is "Most Promising Open Source Project", for projects younger than two years (at 9 of august). And I think that MyPaint should definitely fit in here... it's not older than 2 years, is it? Does someone know when it's been been released for the first time?

    Darn...

    "Most Promising"? LOL. How sarcastic.

  7. Voted Blender w00t!.
BTW, Blendernation has a post right after this that seems to have disappeared. It's called "Syntheyes Complete Training" What happened? If I click the link, it has everything but the post. Also, it doesn't show up on the main page.
