I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

COOOooooool!!!! I wonder if they knew what they were looking at...
Maybe it will inspire them to make better movies. ;D
What??? Disney?
Disney = PIXAR
PIXAR = Awesome Animation Movies (Maybe the best ones)
Disney uses BBB??? :-D AWESOME
Nice to see BBB is still famous all around the world :P recently I saw BBB too for less than a second in the Adobe Photoshop CS5 demovideo
*it was the adobe Flash CS5 demovideo ^.^
Better....
Disney uses Blender :-D
it looks like bbb is from disney. I don't like this
i was there for one day and they just showed their realtime seam carving/video retargeting software working with big buck bunny... probably the researchers just like the movie :)
BBB and Ed Catmull in the same video... that is cool :-)
Coooool! Blender Foundation have achieved much fame with BBB!
That's very ironic since they have a complete library of world class animations of which they own the copyright. Why use BBB? Or are they confused?
Seems that this popularity of BBB and elephant's dream in the CG dev community is part borne from two things.
The first is that it's cool looking footage, rendered and copyright free so they don't have to ask permission to use it (unlike if they used another production/studio's IP etc).
Secondly, it's almost like acknowledgement in various places that people know blender exists and what it does and is capable of. If I could get away with firing in BBB in a tech demo I'd be glad to.
Nice sighting :)
I came across a less exiting and older BBB appearance in the Dutch magazine: "FOTO magazine.info" from 2009 in an article about image formats for the web.
I agree with daniele, it makes it look like BBB is a Disney project in the works. However, they mention that the reason they chose that facility was because of its "open environment"... so it makes sense sort of... a little bitter-sweet though.

I wonder if they had the Blender's Foundation permission for it or does the Creative Commons License let them use it.
@perpetual : Why they need to do that ? Actually, BBB is under the less restrictive CC license (only "attribute"). In this case, BBB is just used to realize some tests and it was not supposed to be shared.
hahaha I love this news. MDR.
vive le libre même Disney y trouves son compte :-P.
perhaps on day the BBB II made in Disney?

No offense, BBB is vulgar. Disney should have better taste but even more so these days it is a point not worth disputing. Though Disney does have its dubious history, regardless, if it brings in cash or publicity then it wouldn't matter anyway. After all, it's only a stupid cartoon. Have at it.
Remember: don't feed the troll, people!
@Mutze:
Yay! Fully agree! Awesome. What a Honor for Blender Community! :)
