TOSMI application deadline soon

5

TOSMI is a yearly Blender workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria. It's not cheap (€1000,- per seat, but scholarships are available - see below), but for that money you get a six-day workshop by renowned Blender including Andy Goralczyk and Bassam Kurdali. The event is financed by the European Union’s support program for the European audiovisual industry. As such, only EU members can attend. Applications close on Wednesday the 14th of July.

Hi!

As the deadline for sending applications for TOSMI training course is close to an end I would like to remind anyone interested to sign up and join us!

This year's TOSMI offers once again a great opportunity to start learning Blender, to expand your knowledge and to familiarize everyone with functionality and quality of the new Blender 2.5.

There are two courses available, a general and an advanced one. Each course lasts for 6 days.

General Blender techniques (16.8.-21.8.2010) focuses on people who have no experience of working in 3D but should possess some kind of artistic skills and be familiar with media tools. In the morning sessions participants will get an insight into the whole animation production process which they will then use in the practical part of the course in the afternoon sessions. Participants will work in groups to produce their own animation, from the idea to the final product.
The course will cover these areas: modeling, animating, using materials and textures, lighting and rendering the scenes and, finally, using these to composite and edit a video.

Advanced Blender (23.8.-28.8.2010) is intended for users familiar with the techniques described above and will expand on these. Participants will move on to advanced features used to make a demo-reel or a professional portfolio. This includes rendering and compositing a scene in multiple layers and passes in order to have full control in final editing. Advanced character techniques will also be presented, as well as rigging, rig retargeting, animating and interacting of the character. All of this will be presented in the morning sessions and then used in the afternoons when participants will be working in groups to produce their own shot. The shot will be of high quality so it could be used in a portfolio or a demo reel.

Everything is done in the new Blender 2.5 version and the trainers include Bassam Kurdali and Andy Goralczyk. There are also some conditions which participants have to fulfill (mainly EU citizens, check the website). Scholarships are available, making these 1000 euro courses free. The participants have to cover only the travel costs.

@dusty: hopefully we'll have a short video report in the end so anyone interested for next year will get an insight into the workshops

Why do these courses cost so much? Even thought there are scholarships which people can get (as we are constantly reminded), someone still pays the prize of those scholarships.
