I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    amazing!
timing and shots are really professional, and the plot is well planned.
I think all of us had surprise, tension, tenderness and rage rising in a balanced manner.

  2. I enjoyed the writing and plot, however the aesthetic needed some more development. Visually, it seemed seemed unsure of what direction to go in, photoreal or non. More work on materials and lighting could have really helped this film a lot.

  3. Great movie; Nice ambiance and feelings.
However, the story theme is very close to the theme of Wolfgang Petersen's movie "Enemy mine" (1985).

  4. I liked it a lot for the story :)
The animation wasn't bad either, but it lacked somewhat in the Material-part.
    Great job, well done :D

Are you submitting this anywhere? Any festivals? I think it stands a chance of gaining some recognition.

  6. Beautiful.

I know people will always nit-pick, but the overall combination was very well done. The script, the camerawork and the overall visual mood of the piece work really well together. The music was evocative and the final shot was gorgeous. I'd be proud to have this piece with my name on it. :)

  7. Realy nice!

first i thought the Character-Animation is to clumsy, but after i knew that it was the Alien it all made sense.
The human-animation looks smooth and believable.
The Surroundings look great and all that smoke helped to tune into the right mood.
Loved the Sphere/Spider vehicles a lot.
Occasionally it looked a little flat, i guess due to lighting/shadows, but it´s still a great short.
    Keep it up!

  8. Absolutely beautiful. Animation was great, characters were great, and the story was amazing! And I couldn't even listen to the music, I was working off the captions.

  9. I was fortunate enough to work on some of the animation for this (mostly the baby/woman shots) and it was a really fun project (despite the tight deadlines :D). The sound especially I think is excellent - congratulations Luca and team!

    Cool stuff.

I felt like the visuals could have been more stylistically unified, but the direction was so impressive that it wasn't a huge distraction. Sweet animation - I like it.

  11. Thanks for sharing this. I would be interested in reading any thoughts you have on lessons learned making such a large and complex project.

One of the techincal things I liked most was the motion blur was put to great effect.

Best of all, I wanted more and was sad when it ended! Well done.

    @all: Thanks!! :-D

@3dementia: I presented it at one of the most important italian festival. I'm working to show it to other festivals...
@Walshlg: I'm writing some articles for some italian magazines. Maybe I'll translate one of them in english!
@durian: for now, I'm not thinking to a sequel... in the future, who knows? :-)

  14. wow this is really amazing! good job, the way the shots were taken really kept the tension in this movie. The last shot was just amazing! (5:15)

  15. Very impressive on many levels, many beautiful moments throughout. It is lacking in some aspects, but overall I really enjoyed this.

nice work, but if you were planning on showing at festivals than perharps you shouldn't have put it online. Putting a shot online disquailifies you from several big festivals.

most shorts that are on festivals only go online after the have finished their runs

    Story and music: amazing!
    Animation: decent.
Materials, lighting, and initial intro shot changes:
could be polished a bit more.

The initial first person perspective of the camera
running movement was really good! The camera
transition from that to the starfish ship seemed
a bit jarring though, since it cuts away from the
first person perspective to a third person perspective so quickly. Perhaps a transitional shot would help in bridging the different perspectives and help the audience to adjust more readily?

All in all, this was a great piece of work! Thanks for sharing.
