Libre Graphics Meeting 2010 is close, don't miss it

6

The annual Libre Graphics Meeting conference is getting really close now. The event is taking place May 27-30 In Brussels, in De Pianofabriek. The Blender community might be interested in attending it for a number of reasons.

Alexandre Prokoudine writes:

First of all, the stack of tools used in CG is rather wide, and LGM is a place where all kinds of free graphics related projects meet at talks, birds-of-feather sessions and workshops. As for software project, GIMP, MyPaint, Krita and Scribus teams are definitely at LGM.

Reason number two is that in the past we always had Blender developers and artists at the conference, and at LGM2008 "Big Buck Bunny" was shown at a cinema a while before official DVD release (and for the second time — publically). Now, as you know, Sintel won't be ready by the time LGM starts, but hear, hear! Ton Roosendaal and half of the Durian team are nevertheless attending Libre Graphics Meeting and willing to actively participate, up to demos and workshops. Some Sintel sneak peeks are reportedly possible :)

This year the focus finally shifts from developers meetings to more end-user oriented events. So it would be very interesting to have European studios and individuals using Blender et al. for commercial projects on board for the conference. If you are willing to give a talk, please submit a proposal. There's still over a week to decide if you want to do one, and then we'll have to finalize the schedule. Registering won't harm as well, for we need to know e.g. how many people participate at the LGM dinner.

You can find more reasons to attend and/or support LGM in this article. Yes, indeed — we'd be very grateful for financial support. We are lucky to have support from local government, but not all of that money is arranged to cover travel expenses for developers and people who give talks, so we keep relying on the community. Please use Pledgie for supporting LGM. And you are willing to make a large donation, it's best to discuss it with GNOME Foundation via lgm(at)gnome.org.
