No Gadgets for Haiti

13

Not Blender news, but something I'd like to bring to your attention. I created a Haiti support site with three volunteers. Are you thinking of buying a nice gadget for yourself? Delay it just a little and instead, make a donation for Haiti now! Visit the website No Gadgets for Haiti and follow us on Twitter via @NoGadgets.

Spread the word!

Thanks,

Bart

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Love it. Good job, Bart. I did something similar a couple of year's back. MY wife's cousin in Vietnam needed education. I thought I needed a new iPod... then I found out for the cost of a new iPod, she would get to go to school FOR A YEAR. I sacrificed my small gadget-purchase that year, and sent that girl to school.

    I'll donate!

  2. Hi Bart,

I'm not really good in English (I'm French Canadian) but I think the following sentence:

    "Your has world collapsed"

    Should be read :

    "Your world has collapsed"

    Isn't?

Appart from that, it's a great initiative. May be you could create a group on Facebook too? I will then share it with my contacts.

    Thanks!

Great idea - did you come up with it before or after the 2nd quake?

I'm 'flat broke,' but so is everyone in Haiti, at $5-10 per DAY. So I'll send what I can, knowing it's worth more there, not just literally.

So no game, though I wasn't 'committed' to getting one, saving what I have for - more important things.

For people who already bought their gadget, you could suggest a matching donation.

  4. I teach at Louis-Riel High school in Ottawa Canada and we have a great number of Haitien kids. IT has been, and is stressful and the mood is sorrow all over the school. I have collegues who have lost entire parts of their family. We have started (the day after the first earthquake) a fund raiser.

I applause you for the initiative.

  6. aGuy: I checked your IP and you were one of the people that wrecked the site. Congratulations, you just earned yourself an IP-ban both from NoGadgetsForHaiti.org and BlenderNation! Tosser.
