Blender Workshop for Northern Utah Professionals

The Ott Planetarium at Weber State University is pleased to announce a new Blender Workshop designed for Northern Utah professionals. The class will meet over the first three Saturdays in February to learn basic Blender skills and collaborate on an open movie project. The open movie will premiere February 27, during the Science Saturday event.

The 2010 workshops will led by Ott Planetarium’s Production Coordinator, Ron Proctor, and The Assistant Planetarium Director, AmyJo Proctor. The Proctors have been producing fulldome content with Blender since 2006 and have a number of titles to their credit, including The Nature of Science, Cosmic Journey, Astro Otters, and the upcoming Expanded View.

The February workshop will be held in addition to the Summer 2010 workshops in June and July.

The Ott Planetarium has conducted five Blender workshops since 2008. Students in the most recent workshop, at the 2009 Mediaglobe Users Group Conference in Hickory, NC, collaborated to produce Sizing Up Space, an open source planetarium show.

The Ott Planetarium, located in Ogden, Utah, has been in operation since 1969. In 2005, the planetarium began producing original fulldome content. Ott Planetarium staff have been conducting Blender-based workshops since 2008.
