Last weekend I hosted a 10-hour Blender workshop for beginners in Tokyo, just as I did last year. The workshop was very well attended (we actually had two more than our planned maximum number of 10 participants) and people really seemed to enjoy it and get a lot out of it.

The workshop covered modeling, rigging, character animation (walk cycle) and then some by-request miscellaneous stuff at the end as time allowed (I talked briefly about physics, compositing, game engine, Durian, SIO2, and other things).

The added bonus was that Blender 2.50 alpha had been released just two days previous to the workshop, so I decided to give the students the option to do the whole workshop in 2.50, which they eagerly went for (two people had technical difficulties so they followed in 2.49, which I explained simultaneously). It was fun for them to know that even as complete Blender beginners, they were ahead of the curve in learning 2.5!

All in all it was a lot of fun. Here's some photos from the event.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
