A lecture about "Open Source 3D Software for cg-architecture" will happen in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I will give this conference as a part of a lecture series about "Free Software", that will take place at Centro Cultural de la Cooperación, Av. Corrientes 1543, 3er piso. Ciudad de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Date: december 5, 12 hs. (all lecture series will take place from 9 to 19 hs).

Summary of the talk

The open source programs are a full and professional alternative in producing photorealistic 3D computer graphics, legally and without cost to the user.
During the talk, I will describe a circuit model of open source software for developing 3D renders at a photo-realistic quality.

The process will cover the period since the 3D designer or architect get the plane by a customer until to obtain the final result as render, briefly describing a model of planning work.

Among others, I will will speak about the following topics:

  • DWG format: what happen with this? Some temporary solutions.
  • QCAD: Simplification of the plane.
  • DXF: Format export.
  • BLENDER: plane import, DXF plugin.
  • BLENDER: setting the scene.
  • BLENDER: models repositories. Import.
  • GIMP: making of textures.
  • YAFARAY: photo-realistic render for Blender. Scene settings and final render.
  • GIMP again: post production.
  • Complementary plugins and software: Arbaro and Ivy Generator (plants & trees), Suicidator City Engine
  • COREFARM: Recently developments for collaborative cluster renders.

I hope it will be helpful.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Hola Irene Coremberg

Hace poco hice una conferencia en Blendiberia que duró unas cuatro horas, usando las notas y los ficheros siguientes:

    # Diapositivas PDF.
    http://static.yafaray.org/guide/curso_yafaray.pdf
    # Ficheros de prácticas.
    http://static.yafaray.org/guide/Practicas.zip

  3. In English:
    Hello:
Thanks for your commentaries. Luciano and Lich: The cycle of conferences is open for all people; your are wellcome.
Jerico: I will ask the organizers if there will be a video. Is in spanish... But I was thinking to hold the presentation (open office impress) on my site (www.3dfenix.com.ar), and wanted to make a little guide about the lecture. If you will be patient I can translate it to English! (If I get some help much more better! )
Jacob: All the lectures will take 10 hours (9 to 19 hs). My lecture (about architectural visualization) will begin at 12 hs, and will last an hour.
Alvaro: Thanks a lot for your offer! This time the lecture will be short, but next year there will be a longer presentation, so your material will be surely very useful; I will contact you.

    In Spanish:
    Hola:
(Si me ayudan, será mucho mejor!)

  4. Irene Coremberg:

    Thanks :)
I'm currently writing my final thesis and the conference subject is quite close to mine. There's no hurry to have the materials yet, but I would really appreciate having them!

  5. Erik Schufmann on

Could anyone record the lecture (and ask Irene if shes ok with this..)?
Would be great (and matches perfect to the title) if it would be free in the inet.
    Regards, Erik

  6. Of course, if someone will record the lecture, it can be uploaded for Internet community. This is the idea.
But remember, I will speak in Spanish!
But in a few days, I will make a small guide based on the lecture, and will upload it on my site.
And will try to translate it to English...

    Best,
    Irene
