Bearubs Video

27

Bearubs 1Created by David Lindsley "Christmas is Coming"  is in the style of those 60's stop-animation classics Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. The song was written by David with help on the arrangement from his neighbor and neighborhood kids on the vocals.

David is also looking for some help to create a longer version so if you are interested you can contact him through his thread at BlenderArtists

  1. Hey there:)

yeah it was posted before but everyone was complaining about the sound quality and minor things like hairsim etc..
thats why they wen't to improve while Christmas not there yet. Notice that the singing is much better now and theres lots of new and additional effects:) Actualy i think there was even a second version in between the first 1 and this here.but it wasn't posted on BN.

I like the new video:) tho its made for kids its still a nice tune and i 'm sure the kids will love it...new details are great and the bearubs are even cuter with all that stuff added.
Don't listen to the old coots with their critique what they lack is an 'activate inner child' button :P
    Cool work!

  2. I like the video. And I like the improvements you made from the previous version.

The sound is Much better, and there are no longer clipping. So good job on fixing that

I noticed there were also few animation improvements such as foot motion at the end, and extra frames for drawing of the t's.

I still think a better shaders and less harsh lighting and shadows on the nose would make it even better. Because with current setup half elf and kids look like Barbra Streisand.

  3. Well, I haven't seen the previous version, but I liked this one.
The song kind of sticks to your head.
I was half-expecting Santa to break into a rap, though.

  4. Great, just right for pre-school viewers, they'll love it. You should make a movie sell to the TV networks. Some of the small time broadcasters and tv internet may wish to play it over the Christmas period. Well done.

  5. Very well done, indeed. I thought it quite refreshing to see something produced in Blender that I could show my three-year-old daughter. To me, it seems a bit easier to create content that is dark, distressed, devient. It seems much more difficult to me to produce something that evokes a sense of genuine joy and happiness. Good job.

  6. I liked it, specially the song. Overall it looks very sweet.

I think the animation could use the most help there, it could be smoother.

  7. Tim, this is a very nice bit of work, sadly there are a few on here that do not understand what a Target Audience is, I showed this my nice earlier today shes 4 and she loves it, its even replaced her favorite song "wind the bobbin up" so you hit the mark!
Overall a fun and enjoyable xmas song.
Send it off you could be sitting pretty at christmas.

  8. David/Tim, yes, it's cute, and a non-critical child audience will accept it. If you want to really animate though, get yourself a copy of Tony White's book "The Animator's Workbook". You might also like to look at "Timing for Animation" by Harold Whitaker and John Halas, and "Acting for Animators" by Ed Hooks, Brad Bird and Mike Caputo.

  9. Thank you, everyone, for appreciating all my efforts. It has been a lot of work and I hope that it pays off! I will let you know.

    A note to:

I anxiously await seeing your work so that I can comment on it! :>

  10. I've watched this twice now and I don't know why people are being so critical. Perhaps those people don't have experience with small children. I rather liked it.

I agree the animation could be smoother in some places, but I find the song to be catchy and well done, and the overall premise to be quite well executed.

Hours upon hours of effort must have gone in to this already.

    Keep up the good work!

  11. I have to agree with David Lindsley and cmw.
Some (luckily few) people seem to get rude as soon as noone is decapitated, or no adult content and explicit themes are displayed in a clip. I wonder how they hope to get a professional acceptance with such an approach to certain subjects.
Blendernation is meant as a platform to inform on all kinds of blender related aspects, so i'm shocked about some rather idiotic comments on a obviously well adjusted artwork for kids.
My godchild (almost 3) seemed to enjoy the video very much tho she doesn't even understand any english word at all!
I hope people joined in on this since there was a call for participation along with this thread, if i was sure to be experienced enough already to help i'D do so.

  12. @Nixon: It is a really big accomplishment. But I personally find the bearubs really frightening :) That's probably because I'm an adult with no kids, so I'm not used to such massive amounts of cuteness or child-centric content at all. I'm sure this is great for children though. I'm just one of those people who get creeped out by exaggerated cuteness.

Anyway, my point is I wouldn't be surprised if much of the criticism stems from similar feelings on other people's part. And, well, it does need quite a bit of work, though people should really be giving constructive criticism, not negative feedback. And they should keep in mind that most likely *they* have never made something that good of that length, and it really is quite a big accomplishment.
