I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    This must be Blender hand tutorial season, LOL!

  2. LOL, yeah, I was in the middle of doing a hand tutorial when two other hand tutorials were released. So I decided to shift gears a little bit and focus on modeling a cartoon hand just so it wouldn't end up being "Yet Another _____".

    Thanks for the post, Bart! BTW, there's one more part in the series where a more detailed version is created including nails, and more pronounced knuckles and tendons. Also, it will cover how to do a five-fingered cartoon hand.

  3. I always enjoy Kernon's (and also others') excellent tutorials.

    But I always seem to miss the right moment to extend my gratitude for them.

    Thus, to Kernon, I sincerely thank-you for all your tutorials, from which I have I have picked up lots of technique and tricks.

    Keep 'em coming!

  4. Good luck, andyengine. Although, if you're totally new to 3d modeling, this may be a bit of a challenge for you. Also note that as the series progresses, I show fewer keystrokes since it's expected that you will have practiced and come to understand them through repetition. You'll get through it, though.

    Thanks, Born! And you're welcome.

  5. Thanks for all the good luck folks, i thought i had better sit back and watch through the video's just to get an idea of where things are heading, so i watched the Basic Blocking and the Finishing the Low Poly Cartoon Hand video's and i must say i can't wait to get started, although i'm going to delay having a go at the hand until tommorow night, as my daughters away at nanny and grandads and daddy gets more PC Time!

    @Kernon.

    A few years ago i was getting on reasonably well with Maya PLE (it was on my Unreal Tournament 2004 disc) but since then the game and that computer are long gone. So as i now have another PC and more time on my hands i thought i would download Blender and give it a go. I messed around last night for a couple of hours learning how to extrude, move vertices and edges etc etc then saw these today and thought i would just jump in at the deep end and see what happens!

    Anyway thanks again for the tutorials!

  6. I watched these the other day. At first I was disappointed to hear you were doing a cartoon hand because of the other hand tutorials released recently, but it showed how knowing your anatomy is important even if your not doing a realistic character. Great job as always.

  7. Hey, thanks!

    I decided to cover a cartoon-styled hand because I felt there was enough coverage already done for more realistic (higher poly count) hands. However, this series will include a more detailed cartoon hand that begins to approach a more realistic hand model.
