LuxRender 0.6 Released

22

luxlogoLuxRender have released their new 0.6 version. Congratulations to everyone involved!

From the announcement:

At last, the LuxRender team is happy to bring the final v0.6 release to you all. This release represents a huge evolution since the previous 0.5 stable version. For those following more closely LuxRender development, only bug fixes went in since the last release candidate.

We've done our best to provide you with a high quality product, but nobody's perfect so don't hesitate to report any bug in the forums or in our bug tracker. In case major issues are found, we'll release maintenance versions during the next development cycle.
Thanks to all those that have made this release possible either by providing source code and ideas or patiently helping us track down issues.

Changes since v0.6RC6:

  • network rendering fixes
  • metropolis sampler fixes
  • PLY mesh loading fixes
  • photon mapping wavelength sampling fixes
  • Various assorted fixes

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. finally luxrender emerges from RC stage. Congratulations to everyone involved. this release has seen its ups and down, just wanted to say that we as a community are right behind you guys. good luck

  2. Congratulations to the whole team for providing us with such an impressive renderer.
All the best for the future development of lux and I am really looking forward to using it again in some future projects.

Very happy about this, and I think the team behind lux should be commended for actually hanging around and releasing a stable version. Its not uncommon for projects to "just release" something to be able to add new features again, but luxrender seems well-managed in this regard.

  4. great work guys, the release canidates have been really great to use thus far but its so nice to it finally out.

and the new site is pretty neat too. Thumbs up for providing clear and consise install instruction that will be very helpful for new users.

  5. This is great. Another great news is, that LuxRender's "mother" PBRT is getting a new 2.0 release and the authors are working on a second edition of their book "Physically Based Rendering". Check out pbrt.org for more details.

  6. You have no idea how happy I am to see Lux 0.6 released! Some of the stability issues in the RC's had me worrying, but like a good movie, all ends with stable software :)

  7. Thanks to the Lux Team!

Jeanphi's commits alone could surely outnumber a vast army of programmers, but it could not be what it is without the combined tremendous effort by ALL involved- past, present, and future- and my best regards to the Project's future.

    Bravo!
