I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. The title is still a bit misleading ... it made me think there was a new level of interaction between a Cloth simulation and a separate Particle simulation. Would be more accurate to say something like "Cloth-based Physics for Hair Simulation" or "Cloth Sim for Hair Physics" ...

Okay the important question is, will we see it in the first official realease of 2.5? I keep having this constannt fear that these are wips yet to be merged untill later 2.5X versions...

It's funny how Bart or Janne woun't bother writting any text! the vid needs no intro, straight away it's pure awesomness! Thanks to Janne and the people who I can see donated! though this funny guy kept donating again and again, i think his name was anonymous or something... ;-)

Instead of tyring to get a build, I'll now just try to get myself to wait untill official blender is released. For now I want to work on winding up any projects I have in the 2.4X series - and there's a lot. I hope that 2.5 has even more goodies when we next meet!

  3. Not to knock all your hard work but, if the hair falls thru the mesh , what good is that ? Wouldn't that make a models hair like fall into its neck ? Is this for only stills or animation ?

  4. Jiraya: They are manipulating the object and it's particle system while running an animation in the view port. So, this is an animation itself. But it would react this way if an armature was moving it instead of using the g-key. And the collision fields were not set with the sphere (Cube), so it would not deflect a particle system. Just like cloth doesn't collide with non-collision meshes now. (or any other particle system). You'd have to set up the mesh more, this was just a fast demo.

As of now, you'd have to be a masterful weight painter and pretty good at the particle system to get something half as good at this. When you learn more about particle systems, you'll get why this is awesome. Try "Bounce, Tumble, and Splash" From Tony Mullen. It's based around pre-2.5 blenders, so it won't be 100% accurate as Blender develops, but it will give you a great leap of knowledge right now.

Or just find more tutorials online :/

  5. omg! blender is advancing leaps and bounds everyday!

First the fluid and hair simulator, now we also have a realistic testicle simulator, with realistic looking hair in real time!!

  6. I too would like to see a video of this with the particles not going thru the emitter mesh. I have spent hours trying to get that effect in previous versions, and would like to see if its possible. It seems that the hair acts realistic, so its just that final thing thats left!
