MakeHuman new features: Auto Modeling, Hair

9

hairsThe latest version of MakeHuman, 1.0 alpha 3b, has two new interesting features: auto modeling (which can create derived or repaired faces from an original) and hair.

MakeHuman is a standalone professional human model generating software. it is making slow but steady advancement. its still is in alpha stage but here is a the surprise, it now sport hair right out of the box.

That's not all, there is new feature for Blender.

This is right out of horse's mouth:

"This is an experiment (a prototype in Blender) of a new feature we are developing in our makehuman software. It's a new, original next-gen tool, that automatically models the most probable realistic head. So the user needs just a few clicks to roughly set the most important facial features, and makehuman will do the rest of the work :-) Actually we have a limited DB at the moment, so the results are still limited."

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Wow... I'm getting more with this and Blender 2.5 my projects are going to look awesome... and that's saying a lot with my lack of talent

  2. It still doesn't give you as much control as for a custom made face, but it should be a great time saver if you want to build several background characters.

Are the hair made in Makehuman and can be somewhat exported to Blender? Or are you stuck with MH? (that's an important question for me :) )

  3. Hi everyone.

Just a heads up. This feature has not yet been implemented, but it's on it's way and will probably become an integral part in Alpha 4. You can find the roadmap with an assumed releasedate (Sept25th) at the MH site.

Besides that, Manuel says "we have new 3d heads donations...so the database and face reconstruction will be improved again (but the conversion will keep me busy for almost a month!)"
So 25th will maybe be a little too early to enjoy this feature. Until then, enjoy the tickling anticipation.

Sorry aws357, but afaik you are not able to export hair to poly yet, but I think this will be an option in the next release.
