Sectioning a mesh with nodes

5

Sectiontutor-012Mats Halldin describes a great technique to visualize cut-outs of objects using node materials.

Mats writes:

In this tutorial we will create a section passing through a simple object using material nodes. We'll then have a look at various ways of combining several sections into more complex cut-outs, useful for, for example, architectural sections.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. very good technique...
to further develop the nodes in blender might be useful to be able to combine a set of nodes to form a new (parametrizzable) node

  2. @Jimmy Volatile: It can be applied to multiple objects simply by assigning them the right material. Also, you can have complex mesh and a complex cutting texture without slowing down rendering much.
