I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Happy birthday, Yunow!

It's a perfect suzanne modelling! I liked the candle lamp setup too! The AO ....samples...The buffer shadows...

  2. may be it is time to tell us the truth about the choice of "blender" as name so that we won't confuse it with blender kitchenaid or phillips and so on...very,very happy birthday

  3. @Random. All monkeys are edible. I once found one in a box with other animal flavors, called "crackers" if you can believe that.

  4. WOAH! when i was looking at it, i thought it was real. and then i read comments and it seems that is was made in blender
    AMAZING JOB!

  5. Hahaha. Happy birthday. Lol. I kinda get confused by the writings here. It looks like some think its a render, some thinks its a real cake. Lol. What is it really? I think it was a real cake.

Nice cake. I wish I could have one made in my birthday.

  6. Ok, so as far as I can tell, the cake is real. The reason people assume it's a render is simply because since it is posted on blendernation it is automatically assumed to be a demonstration of some super-awesome rendering technique (which it is: it's called photography). Going by the original forum post, I'd guess that the Suzanne model on top was lovingly crafted out of putty (so it's not actually edible). Even still, this is an awesome bit of work- I'm not sure myself if it would have been easier to do in blender or in the real world!

  7. That Suzanne is fantastic... looks like it was superimposed. I hope you let them watch a display of you being speechless... tonne of love gone into making that cake.

  8. I just got a brilliant idea from some of these comments- start pretending that real things are in fact made in 3D and confuse the hell out of people.

  9. 9ce cake u got ...........i was also confused as whether ti was real or virtual ...........if not for the comments i would believe it was blender made....
