I ran into this texture site the other day. They currently have 205 textures, neatly categorized and all licensed under a CC-BY license. Maybe you'll find it useful. Enjoy!

nice !!
not bad
Thanks, I could always use more textures!
Well,
nice photos but 50% are not suitable as texture. But taking pictures of potential textures is hard anyway. Most require editing (at least when I try). ;-)
Some nice photos, but where's the textures?
Photos of scenery or objects don't count as textures, and the photos of surfaces are mostly too close up to be used as a texture. More variety within a pattern is needed for it to work as a texture.
And, in my book, if it ain't tileable, it ain't no texture.
A quick google for 'tileable' and I found this (Texturize 2.0 plugin for GIMP) which looks rather useful, though I've not tried it myself...

There's a lovely example on there of a tileable cracked earth texture. It would make the basis of a great skin texture for an alien/monster/mutant/etc.
I see plenty of good raw materials for texturing in there. Tileable isn't a prerequisite. besides, it's easy enough to tile it once you know what you want.
I'd much rather have the original photo and use what I need than have someone's idea of a generic one size fits all texture. You're going to have to edit it if you want to do a good job anyways.
Good find.
Site doesn't load here...
Wow good find. Thanks. I find it useful. Thanks again.
The site is still down here, but not for everyone else.
What's up with that? Are Dutch people not allowed to visit the site?
Very welcome any CC textures/images collection!
Thanks
