Terry Wallwork has reviewed the new book 'Foundation Blender Compositing' by Roger Wickes.
Terry writes:
I was eager to get hold of this book and had it on pre-order the second I heard about it. Reason being that I knew there were no books specifically dedicated to using Blender for compositing tasks (at least when I ordered it). Also Mr Wickes has previously produced compositing videos that can be obtained from his website that also covered compositing. Those videos were very good and I was curious as to how this book would compare.

I pre-ordered this book as well. I read it in two days. I thought it was really good.
Will it be in the Blender shop?
I have been reading mine for two weeks and enjoying every bit of it. Lots of things I didn't know, and lots of great ideas. It is about 450 pages and none of it is wasted. Thanks for such a great book Mr. Wickes!
Sounds good, but II found it in the store Sympodius, so I guess maybe you jumped the gun.
I think I've bought every English Blender related book and movie out there... Thanks to the community!
@Iconoclast: It's in the Blender e-shop? I can't seem to see it.
Hi,
sympodius: It's almost certain to end up in the Blender E-Shop eventually as it is on amazon so they don't have an exclusive deal on it from the looks of it, and the books part of the Apress group and they are huge. Thing is though the Blender E-Shop usually lags behind on getting books that are not official Blender Foundation books.
It would be interesting to see what the process is for the Blender E-Shop to stock particular books.
Personally If I can, I always try and get books from Blender E-Shop rather than amazon but the delay in them getting none Blender Foundation books means I often have no choice if I don't want to wait. Shame really, as I feel much better about buying a book if I know that some of the money goes towards Blender development (which any book bought from the Blender E-Shop does).
Also looking at the Blender E-Shop now, as far as i can tell every book that has even been released is in there.
Although another quick scan and at least one book does appear to be in the Blender E-Shop:
Roland D. Hess - Animating with Blender - Book and DVD
Strange.
**the above should of said doesn't.
One day I will learn to type! (probably)
Looks great.
Unfortunately from amazon it costs more in £ in the UK than it does in $ in the US.
ie twice as much
I might have to pick it up next time I'm in the US.
@Terry: Although I would love to have this book NOW, I think I'll wait a little while and see if it ends up in the Blender shop. I try to get my books there whenever possible too. Mind you, I've been waiting for that Roland D. Hess book for a while.
@sympodius et al: I've been working directly with Ton and Apress for Ton to sell the book via e-shop. It should be available this or next week.
Thanks for the book review, Terry, Joel, and M. Carson. I'm so happy you enjoy it Byron! From whatever venue you purchased it from, please copy/enter your review there for others to see. If you are considering purchasing the book, please rate the reviews in Amazon (as useful) as that helps it in the search engine when others are selecting a book. I would hope it filters over into non-Blender users as well who are looking for a book on compositing, and gets them Blendering!
@Papasmurf: That's great news! Thanks for letting us know.
Thanks for the info : Ordered today !o)
The book sounds great. Congratulations again, Roger, on getting that done! Also, thanks to Terry for all these helpful book reviews!
@Papasmurf: Any update on the book coming to the blender e-shop?
