Blender Shop/SVN/Maillist server down, back up

7

wiresWhat turned out to be a faulty power cable caused a bit of a panic yesterday as it brought down Proog, the server that hosts the Blender e-shop, SVN and maillists. With our regular sysadmin on vacation and Ton working against Siggraph, Durian and 2.5 development deadlines, the timing was just great! We all feared that the disks had crashed but Justa, sysadmin at our host XS4ALL, noticed the loose wiring. Hurrah!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Oh boy, are this really Blender servers in the picture!?!? This looks even more complicated than Blender itself! :P
Anyway, yay for solving the problem! \o/

  2. the picture looks messed like some of my material and setup nodes wich gone haywire,
'No machetes allowed in this room'

  3. looks like a wires-spider is living there :p lol.
how r u gonna find the trouble with all these wires ??!
anyways its a gr8 news that u solved the prob :)

  4. Blender is having a lot of outages compared to other sites. Is there something to be learned from all this? How about switching to Linux (Blender is using Mac OS X Server, last I heard)

  5. really not related to this but in the last few days I have had trouble seeing pages at blenderartists.org

if I click on the 'go to last post icon' for a forum or the topic like 'Blender 2.50 development' I can see the whole page content and then go to other pages in the same thread but if I just click on the whole forum say 'News and Discussion' all I see is the header and an error on page message in the status line of IE8

is anyone else having this issue? thanks

  6. hmmm well in a moment of desperation I reset my ZA firewall rules and it seems to work now.
weird stuff - dont know what happened there..havent had that one before...gremlins!
sorry to raise a false alarm folks :)
