Megagolf

25

teaserRecently entered into the Blender Game Contest was a beautifully made game entitled 'Megagolf' by Supersocks on BA. This is a true example of what can be achieved currently with the BGE, both with graphics and gameplay.

The game is based on Golf, but with a more futuristic approach as the courses take place in 3 dimensions (see the pictures below). The graphics are crystal clear, using the new GLSL materials in the BGE. Players without GLSL supported graphics cards can also still play the game.

Supersocks explains the gameplay:

Use your mouse to aim and rotate view. If you have wheel in your mouse you can zoom in and out with it.

Hold down left mouse button then move your mouse up or down to adjust the putt strength and left or right for direction. Release the button to launch the ball.

There's two kind of surfaces: Standard in which ball bounces off when hit and magnetic which ball can attach to. Also there exist speed pads with arrows which give you extra speed in that direction and jump pads which launch the ball upwards relative to the surface.

Have fun! ...and don't mind few badly implemented courses.

There's a thread with more information and comments here. (plus alternate download links)

*Updated to version 1.03*  Download the game (20mb) from this link

And something else worth looking at  is the trailer on Youtube. Watch it here.

  1. Nevermind my mentioning of "Cube" in my last post, it was featured in the "Contest Winners" post already :D
I'd still like to see more of the other games on BN thouzhg :P

  2. I agree more of the games from the contest should be exposed, since the results were VERY VERY good in many cases, much better than in the last contest...

Yeh, I agree with you guys. Ill see if I can whip up some other articles, on the more outstanding games in the contest, over the next few weeks.

  4. Hey, this game doesn't use GLSL at all! That's the beauty of this game compared to the others of the contest: it has very cool graphics without any GLSL.

  5. can someone help my? after it load level i can't do enything. camera go around the level all the time. it looks like very cool game but i can't play it.

  6. Those graphics are beautiful! Reminds me of Homeworld.

I wish it was something other than golf... :( Cool concept and great work, of course. I just don't like golf much.

  7. Doesn't seem to do much. It says loading. Thats all. Pressing P (capital P) opens a small window labeled Preview. Its a really snazzy white grid and all, but otherwise kinda boring. The word "LOADING" in the lower left corner is interesting too, but once you've seen it, you've seen it. I can zoom around with the mouse. There's a sphere above the white grid. Its not filled in. Does that have something to do with the game? I was led to believe that this is an outstanding example of what can be achieved with the Blender Game Engine. Ok. Its a start, but maybe something that moves around in the next version? Ok, actually I have two monitors and sometimes that kills games. Should I disable one and see if that does it or is there more ie: (Nvidia 9600 GT is too slow, core i7 cpu is too slow, etc)?

got 80, after failing a couple a holes entirely lol. does anybody know how are you meant to deal with the mangled hole???

  9. The video doesn't do it justice - I'm not a gamer, but this is great. I always loved minigolf, and here is a well-done video-game equivalent.

P.S. I love the fine print on the "ball startup pad"!
