Videotutorial: Rigging Demo

10

marcus-blair-rigging-demoHere's a good videotutorial by the Process Diary that'll explain many rigging concepts. If you're an absolute rigging beginner, I recommend you read up on a few tutorials first - some good links are included in the article.

Hi folks, Paul from the Process Diary. This month, I I rig one of my characters and show you the process. While I borrow from tried-and-true methods which have worked in the past, I take you from initial armature setup through to custom bone building and final bone-heat weighting. All in about 15 minutes!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Paul, great tutorial. I have watched it twice and will watch it a few more times. It contains a lot of information. I like that it focuses on the concepts of rigging.

  2. ysvry: Origin fallacy.

It applies because it's a term for doing the exact same thing. Doesn't really matter. Call it what you want, just like pop, soda, Coke, coda, cold drink, and Pepsi are interchangeable around the world all for fizzy cola water.

  3. Great video. It is a nice overview for people that have went through some of the rigging resources you mention on the blog.

  4. Videos like these makes me think whether the one need to buy expensive software or not. I mean, The only advantage of Maya in my eyes is customer support, nothing more. I heard that Blender has stability issues, but then, how did they managed to build BBB or that Apricot game?

Amazing demonstration of rigging in Blender! Bravo!
