Jeremiah W. has created a video for the skinit.com 60 second commercial contest. He used Blender to render and animate the 3D models, as well as some other elements. The actual electronic models were purchased on the web, "as my skills and patience did no allow for the quality that I could buy ;-) (plus I got them at a really good price)". All of the texturing, animation, lighting, and rendering were done in Blender.
"The scene with the mass of electronics was done by layering a render of the device on a 2D plane...then duplicating the planes a number of times. I don't know how many planes were in that shot...but it was enough to slow Blender down quite a bit. Anyway, hope you like the commercial, and if you do, please rate and comment, your feedback is one of the ways in which the commercials will be judged.
Also, the winning commercial of the contest *may* be aired on US television. In the past Skinit.com has aired commercials on MTV and ESPN, as well as local stations, so this could be a lot of "exposure" for Blender!"
Happy Blending!

nice job :)
good presentation
Amazing job! I really like it. One question though, instead of using a mass of planes with a 2D render on each would using dupliverts not have given the same effect with lower utilization? As I understand it using the dupliverts setting reuses the information for each instance of the object that is already in memory so if you have a very repetitive scene like this it would help a lot.
Please do not take this as anything but a question, your Blender skills surpass my own and I am only curious if it could have helped you.
I hope your hard works pays off!
Hey! I'm the guy who submitted the video. :-)
@Elcrapocrew it may have. I kinda thought of that, but ended up going with the hand duplicated planes. I haven't messed with dupliverts that much, so it would have been something that I would have had to experiment around with.
Also,Skinit.com announced that you ALSO need to comment on their YouTube contest page at http://www.youtube.com/skinittv to "vote" for my video. If you do leave a comment there, be sure to include my user ID jeremiahjw so they know who's video you are talking about. ;-)
I think you win. Great commercial
:O a very professional looking commercial!!
great work!!
very good!
would you tell us why did you use blender for a such good work, and wich other 3d applications do you know, so that we can understand the real potential of blender?
thanks!
Nice! And a nice product line too! might check it out and upgrade my boring laptop look. :)
Thank!!!
@JohnJ I used Blender because that's all I really know and have (it's free...go figure). Blender has a lot of potential, you might want to check the web and YouTube to see what has been acomplished with it. Also watch this short film made with Blender http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/.
Nice product and nice commercial.
However, I think between the enumeration of the category examples (sports, fashion, collegiate), the laps of time between each should be shortened to render the commercial more dynamic.
from my previous message, please read "to make the commercial more dynamic" instead of "to render ..."
@kurisutofu I had to "extend" my video to fit the 60 second time length requirement, otherwise it would have been faster. The commercial fits much better into a 30 second advertisement, but they wanted 60.
I see. Don't you have more categories in your list? So you could fasten the whole animation by adding up the categories.
Well, in any cases, if you don't have choice, well, it can't be help. Anyway, good job! I wish I could do the same.
Oh, yes! That's great! Of course!! ;-)
From the technical it's simple, isn't it??
But the materials are horrible! Why don't you use a toon-material!!
Very nice. However, the pacing of visual was not fast enough - having the narrator not have those pauses (at least not as long of pauses,) would have been better IMHO. Thanks! Nice work!
Incredible work! Very professional!
You should definitely win compared to the others IMHO...
@Banor Again, I had a 60 second length requirement...if I would have been allowed, I would have made it 30 seconds.
@Magiciandude I sure do hope I win! :-P
Excellent!
Jeremiah, you've done a slick and pleasing commercial.
Did you use any other software to make this video?
@chipster123 Thank you! Yes, I also used Premiere and After Effects.
Really good! =D I hope more of this awesome commercials and animations keep in comming =) Blender power!
Hey guys, thanks for all of the comments! I need 20 more votes to make it to the 2nd most voted video. You can "vote" by leaving a comment on my video. My submission is currently the most viewed, but I still need the votes!
