Venom's Lab DVD will have English audio track

22

venomslabFrom blender.org: "After tests with English subtitles - which didn't work at all - we decided to produce [the Venom's Lab DVD] with 2 audio tracks, Spanish and English.". That is a most excellent decision guys! It will make the DVD much, much, much more useful for everybody. PLUS we get to hear Venom's cool English/Spanish accent as a bonus :)

(PS: if you haven't seen it yet, check out the cool Venom's Lab trailer)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. yay! a bilingual Training DVD!

I'm more than happy with this!

Sorry for all the discussions before, but only after some lot of testings you get to know the real thing, and we figured out that making subtitles and having to shorten every sentence I said in Spanish, to English (in that small amount of time that you have for reading the subs), was a lot of time..

Also for subtitles to work you have to make videos longer, explain beforehand what you're going to do, and then do it, so people can get to read, and prepare to watch what I'm actually doing in Blender, instead of reading the subs.

Is a mistake that as first-timers it had to happen for us to realize it.

So! if you didn't mind my english on Yo Frankie!'s tutorials, now I'll do it with a little bit better english (still Spain accent though :), better explained, and way better sound! and of course, time :) (during Yo Frankie! i was busy with a lot of other things for the game besides making tutorials).

Thanks Blendernation, and thanks to everybody who already supported the Blender Foundation by getting the DVD, will come very handy to future Blender Projects! (like Durian even :)

  2. Great!! I was going to pass on this because of the language, but now I'm in. Thanks for the work on this. We really appreciate it.

    saludos...

  4. So glad this is going to have English, wasn't going to get it before because I didn't like the idea of subtitles. I've already pre-ordered it now!

  5. Wow, great news - although I didn't realize the lack of English audio when I ordered the DVD a week ago. All the more reason to be happy!

  6. Excellent decision. Reading subtitles and watching the video would have been unpleasant, and now the DVD is much more open to the UK and USA. Bravo!

  7. The trailer looks very nice, I like how the little working tool goes over the surface and has effect on it.

I've pre-ordered the dvd! This way I can support Blender and can get better at it. :)

  8. I wish Blender foundation, could also release the DVD Titles in digital format,
both for costumer who buy the DVD, and who only want it's digital download.

Firstly, because of the time it takes to arrive, after shipment. Users could watch
    it, as soon its finished.
Second, is the advantage of not having to pay money to manufacter the DVD, or
even, the importance with the earth, non polution.
