The results of the Seasteading design contest are in and voting is now open. May 13 and the winners will be announced May 15.
Johan Steenkamp reports:
The seasteading design contest is finished. One can now vote for one's favorite
entry. Disclaimer: I made one with Blender called 'Akamai'- Johan Steenkamp.
On top of that, you can download the models in a whopping 690 Mb file. They're in all kinds of formats, but there's quite a lot of Blender material there as well. All files are released under the Creative Commons Attribution license. In order to prevent an immediate meltdown of their webserver I won't link to it directly. If you want it, you'll have to search for it! :)
Update: I checked the model download and the following models were present as .blend files: 4,6,13,17,18,19,21,22,24,27,31,32,33,36,39,40. Almost half of the entries were done in Blender!

Beautiful architecture !
What are the ones made with Blender ? ;)
@MaximB: good question - I checked the download file and added the info to the post.
i like number 12, conceptual stuff...
Very interesting.
Yours (Akamai) is certainly one of the best presented.
But, in terms of concept, I voted for #14.
Of the self-sustaining ideas, I think #14
is the one best thought out.
It's a close one, most designs look so good and it's really a matter of taste.
I liked design 22 most but 39 is close behind.
BTW
I don't seems to manage to cast my vote, I click on my choice and nothing happens, and there is no "vote" button.
I've tried with Firefox3 and Opera ... does anyone have the same problem or knows the solution ?
So? When do we start pooling money to build an offshore HQ for the Blender Foundation?
"BlenderNation" would take a whole different meaning.
(o^^)o o(^^)o o(^^o)
frikin' shitty site! evertime i voted #6 it jumped to #41 or #39, so i think i voted for one of these now because their crappy site didn't work!
@ marijn: Yes, I tried to vote myself (I'm the #32 entry) but the vote jumped to 38... I hope someone else has jumped on my project : )
I've sent an email to seasteading.org and they added a new voting option for those of us who are having trouble to vote in the current poll.
Now you can safely vote via this link : http://www.polldaddy.com/p/1590394/
This link is also added to the bottom of the original voting page.
I've confirmed that it works perfectly (at least on Firefox3).
You can now vote.
@MaximB, thanks for your help. but it doesn't make much difference anymore, since i have already voted.
I'd have to give blessing with you here. Which is not something I usually do! I enjoy reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to speak my mind!
