Alexandre Prokoudine writes:

The Libre Graphics Meeting (LGM) is an annual workshop for developers and users of free software graphics applications to collaborate and advance the cause of high-quality free graphics software.

For four years, the Libre Graphics Meeting has been the premiere conference for developers, users and supporters of free software graphics applications. Developers from projects such as GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, Krita, Scribus,Hugin, the Open Clipart Library, and the Open Font Library gather to work on interoperability, shared standards, and new ideas. Work at prior LGMs has pushed the state of the art in important areas such as color management, cross-application sharing of brushes and other assets, and common formats.

The face-to-face meetings and opportunities for collaboration are important to developers, but LGM offers plenty for end users as well. Tutorials, talks, and birds-of-a-feather (BOF) meetings to help free software users get the most out of their applications fill out the LGM schedule, and demonstrations from artists showcase what is possible.

The fourth annual LGM will be held May 6 - 9, 2009 in Montreal, Canada at École Polytechnique. Blender community might like to attend the conference for the talk by Martin Poirier on using Blender's sequence editor.

Registration is now open here.

You can also support the conference by donating via Pledgie.

  1. The pledgie link has accidentally incorporated the full stop into it's address. That needs to be removed for the link to work.

and to use gimp inside inkscape!

  3. @Johnj; you can use Gimp in Blender. If you run a verse server http://www.uni-verse.org/ along with a verse enabled build of Blender http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds/showbuild.php?action=show&id=782and the verse plugin for gimp http://users.telenet.be/blendix/verse/old/demo.html Start the server. Connect to it in gimp. Connect to it through Blender. Start a new tecture in gimp. Find it under the verse section in you outliner. Load it. Then load it into you UV editor and paint away. It takes some stumbling around but it's not to bad. Maybe I should make a tutorial on my website. Here's a discussion about it: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=90859

  5. I am a FCP (Final Cut Pro) developer that uses Final cut studio and open source. I have been researching on how to change the sequence editor in blender and make the timeline look more like FCP. I have created a plugin that allows me to send data from FCP & motion into blender and working on Blender. Is there anyone out there that could help me on the blender side pls
