200px-blender3d_neonfurThe particle systems documentation on the Blender.org wiki has been completely updated. Please note that this documentation covers the particles from 2.46 and higher.

It basically took me over a year to finish it, but now, finally it's there: the complete documentation for Jahka's brilliant particle system of Blender v2.46.

I still plan for even more tutorials and there are some things in the manual that needs to be updated (especially the page about force fields), but I'm quite happy with the result.

Sorry for the long time though ...

And some tutorials I wrote:

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. finally! I have been looking for so much of this stuff for so long.
You can fiddle with the particle settings for only so long before you go insane.
    THANK YOU !

  2. Is there anywhere you can download _good_ fur/hair materials like the neon blue one shown in the picture on this site? The ones in the "Blender Material Repository" and the documentation does, well, not look very good to say the least.

    *hello...
*any pdf to download...i have collected about 2 gigas of blender material from docs to tuts to bam issues, mat libraries, blender versions, scripts and so on...and this particle system doc is really a must have....

  4. I went ahead and converted this guide into a PDF file for personal use.
But if SoylentGreen does not mind, i might post it in the Blenderartists forums.

    Great work.

If someone posts this as a PDF, please post a link here.

djallalnamri, ONLY 2 gigs? I'm just burn 3 DVDs worth of tutorial materials and sadly, they only scratch the surface of what Blender can do...IF you know what you're doing. I don't.

Also, The April fools day windows Blender header graphic seems to still be in the rotation, you might want to take that down.

  6. Awesome. It's cool to see my Fur Library renderings being used in updated documentation, considering it's been out for a long time now. For those who are interested, you can still download my Fur Library from the following link:

    http://www.bchynds.com/?p=149

It contains the neon fur rendering that's used in the documentation listed, as well as many others. One of these days I'll get around to finishing my Blender Fur DVD. Enjoy.

  7. Hi there!

for anyone in the need of a single, downloadable, printable, bookmarked reference document to learn our great Blender, i would like to remind you my "wiki pdf" effort:

    http://www.letworyinteractive.com/b/category/blender/
    latest release:
    http://www.letworyinteractive.com/b/2009/02/blender-wiki-pdf-manual-from-january-29th-2009-2/

and, by the way, since about a month there is a link to the latest release also on the right-sidebar on
    http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Main_Page
look on the side bar for a link named "PDF Manual (NEW!)"
    Cheers, Marco

Thank you all a lot for the positive comments.

@BrianH: I found that I have uploaded an older image (i.e. I have uploaded it a year ago and forget to change it...), but of course this is from you fur library. I have remade it now with 2.49, so a few settings had to be adjusted, and I have not yet managed to get exactly the same look as you did. If you come up with an even better material, I would be glad to include it in the manual. I hope the attribution to you is OK? http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Image:Blender3D_NeonFur.jpg

@nonaestet: The license is probably Open Content License, see http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Meta:Licenses. I release everything I write also with an GFDL license, which you may use instead (but only for the parts I've written alone). So yes, of course you can compile it into a PDF file and publish that. Though I would probably wait a bit so that errors may be corrected (and there are for sure some I've not yet found).

    With kind regards

    Wow, thank you so much!

There's so much about the particle system that I've wondered about and now I'll finally get the answers. :)

  10. @BrianH

A Fur DVD? Oh yes please! I would love to buy such a thing, just name your price! It is very difficult to find really good references for Blender.

  11. @GMT,

It's something I've been tossing around for a while now, along with the BGE Networking I've been working on. I've been very busy with my job (the one that pays the bills), but lately its been getting more calm and I could possibly find time to get something done with the DVD. I have other fur materials I could include, possibly another Volume worth if I work on it some more. I'll let BN know if I do proceed with anything.

  12. @BrianH
Be sure to announce it on blenderartists too if anything comes of it (not everyone reads blendernation) I'm sure it will be appreciated by many people :)

  13. I was doing some particle work some time ago and was looking for some info on the new system. I couldn't find it. So this will be very helpful!!! Thanks for all the hard work.

  14. THANK YOU!!

Small note: Your link above to "Particle Types" incorrectly points to .../Doc:Manual/Physics/Particles/Particle_physics.

It should be edited to point to .../Doc:Manual/Physics/Particles/Types instead.

Good ol' copy and paste... :)
