For those of you who's keeping tabs, this is the second ever gathering of Blender-heads in Vancouver BC, Canada. Again University of BC's Fisheries Centre generously hosted the one-day event for free.

In the morning we talked about the on-going Blender project at UBC. People were invited to showcase their work. We also discussed the current state of Blender, many felt that they could benefit from better documentation and learning materials. In the evening, we split up into two groups where the beginners got a crash course in basic Blender navigation and modeling, while the experts converged in our elusive (and very cool) Immersion Lab and worked as a team to create a pool game in a less than 2 hours.

A Canon 5D MkII was there to capture it all.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. It was great to hang out with some other blender users and see some of the work out there and also the varied users.Hope to see you at the next one!

  2. yes, it was nice. I could learn a bit about the game engine.
but it's crazy how it can become complex when you want to do something serious. And python is usually required (not that would be a problem for me).

  3. I missed the 1st one - but glade I got there this time. thks to Mike and UBC Fisheries staff for organizing/hosting a great gathering of Blender enthusiats! Also...the project for Fisheries is awesome and the "Immersion Lab" has some serious technology - which would explain the facial expressions in Bmud's link
    cheers

  4. Definitely a cool workshop. Thanks to Mike, Sherman and Villy for hosting it!

Doing a game in under two hours with a team of people must be some sort of record.
Pool was a bit too easy though. Next time we'll make an epic RPG.
