Goodnight Moon

10

Here's a short animation by Dan Finlayson inspired by the song 'Goodnight Moon' by Shivaree, a large portion of it was made using Blender and some rather intriguing techniques.

Dan used the unorthodox technique of Camera Mapping in an unconventional way to achieve results no less than impressive. You might have to watch it several times, upon first viewing its hard to determine which parts are CGI. The smooth 3D camera movements are strikingly realistic and polished.

You can view it at Vimeo (click the image below)

Dan writes:

"Credit of course is due to the fantastic tutorial by Colin Levy: http://www.peerlessproductions.com/tuts.html"

The tutorial, although a little outdated, is a must see and is still functional for the latest versions of Blender.

  1. forums are made for this kind of amateur work like this making the front page. This is forum materials at best. Sorry Blendernation, you are slipping. This and the Autodesk and Softimage deal bad mouthing. Since Bart left things have been going waaaay down hill.

  2. @ Ignotus
Bart hasnt left, hes been very active with Blendernation for the past few months.

As for the animation, you need to appreciate the way Dan has used his camera mapping to achieve results that a lot of people would never have seen, with the additional bonus of a tutorial being out there for others to learn the technique with Blender as well.

  3. Was camera mapping ever properly employed into blender, or is it still a hack like it was described in the Peerless Productions tutorial?
