Dia Blender - Bogotá, Colombia, November 13th

The first Colombian Blender event (as far as we're aware) is coming up on November 13th! The 12-hour 'Dia Blender' has free entry to the workshops, shows and conferences.

On november 13th Tecnoparque Colombia will be hosting a Blender Specific event, called "Día Blender" (Blender Day).

There will be introductory workshops and talks in the morning and more advanced/technical in the afternoon.

Hopefully this is a very good opportunity for the Colombian Blender community to start taking better shape and also for the "birth" of new cool projects :).

From the event's website (auto-translated, so a bit wonky):

Technopark SENA Colombia, Bogota [...] has organized the 1st Meeting Blender Technopark in Colombia Design & Animation, addressed to all who are involved in the area of graphic design, industrial and advertising , Which somehow require high-quality applications for their academic and professional work. This is an event of 12 hours with free entry to the workshops, shows and conferences focused on work to develop animation and video games with this powerful tool, where participants can choose in which activity or activities they wish to participate. You can also join the contest Blendor creating a character in time limit, which will reward at the end of the day on behalf of our sponsor Pixel Studio.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Hey, that's great news! Wish I could be there. John was my host and guide in Bogota when I attended LOOP in August, and I know there are plenty of enthusiastic and gifted Blender users there, so I'm sure this will be a great success!

By the way, I don't think I posted the pictures from that event on Blendernation, so here are some pictures of Colombian Blenderheads (and other Colombian things...). Not too off topic I hope:

  2. Great news ! I was in Bogota in 2005 and also had a great time there with John, I hope the Colombian Blender Community keeps on growing and getting stronger every day !

  3. Hello Tony and Malefico, glad to read you guys :)

Well, this event is something I have dreamed of for quite some time. Recently the same purpose arose in a group called "Núcleo Digital" (this group belongs to Tecnoparque Colombia) so it was the opportunity I have been waiting for :)

We're working hard on targetting the Blender community AND design professionals that could eventually be interested in knowing about Blender (Big Buck Bunny and Yo Frankie have drawed a lot of attention from many people recently...) so that in that scenario many good things can come up.

I will be reporting back on how it went, hopefully including recordings of the talks!
