Blender Servers Moved

15

The Blender Foundation recently acquired two new Sun Microsystem servers, and their hosting provider XS4ALL generously decided to sponsor additional rack space. So, last Friday Marco and Arnd (justa on the #blendercoders IRC channel) moved all the old+new stuff to its new home. Lots of lights and cables. I like.

From top to bottom: the powerswitch, Cisco router (to be replaced with a new HP switch asap) and the servers:

  • Proog; mailserver, projects, maillists, e-shop
  • Emo; www, blogs(apricot,BBB) and secondary MX.
  • Jorma; backup and download (Apple XServe donated by Apple)
  • The two new Suns (Rinky and Gamera) will be used in the future for better scaling of our webservices and database replication.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
