SIGGRAPH 2008 Shapeways interview

15

Shapeways is an online 3D printing company, you may have read about Bart's past involvement with them. In this interview, they show off some of the objects that were made by contestants using Blender and their 3D printer for their SIGGRAPH contest. I also managed to get Sacha to pose with his "Man in Man" statue which I think you'll enjoy.

  1. This is very cool! I just sent them a signup request; I have a couple objects modeled in Blender that I'd just love to have printed as a 3D object.

I wonder what printer they use? They don't seem to have a color 3D printer.

  2. I know youre a shareholder in this company bart, how much more plugs are we gonna have to endure? :P
a full color ton action figure would be great , with build in voice saying the blender in hollywood frase.

  3. @ysvry: I'm not a shareholder, I just do freelance work for them. And as lots of Blender artists participated in their contest, we thought it would be fun to share this!

  4. @Bart: Yeah!! It's not like YOU BUILT THIS SITE or anything, so please stop giving us a chance to see NEW STUFF BEING MADE IN BLENDER and in sigraph,no less. JUST STOP IT, we are not interested in NEW AND EXCITING WAYS of doing stuff, even if you were only freelancing for them.

@ysvry: if you don't like the content, shut up. I find some of the things here not interesting me so I simply flip on to the next story, the editors here are doing GREAT JOB on finding them for you, so stop whining.

    :-)

  5. @ysvry: Just because you're not interested doesn't mean the rest of us aren't. I for one find these 3d printing articles some of the best, as I am looking into it myself.

  6. Relax, everyone. Ysvry has a point that we should not have too many Shapeways related posts here and we won't - don't worry. BlenderNation will still only carry Blender-related news so *if* there's something new about Shapeways that's interesting to Blender users then, well, I think it's perfectly ok to post it here.

    Cheers,

    Bart
