BBB goes Hollywood!

23

It's SIGGRAPH week (10-15 august)!
We've managed to get BBB screenings + peach team presentations in the theatres of three exciting Hollywood studios:

* Disney Feature Animation (friday)
* Dreamworks Animation (tuesday)
* Rhythm & Hues studios (wednesday)

This on top of our schedule already:

* Sunday: Siggraph Sandbox demos, 6-8 PM
* Monday, three BOFs 2-6 PM
* Tuesday-Thursday: demos on HP booth
* Wednesday 8.30 PM: BBB screening and ‘making of' Panel

Four of the Peach crew artists will help me out for these 7 days, so here's you chance to meet with Sacha, Nathan, William and Andy. It's going to be great! Expect lots of pictures and a report here in a week

(Late news: BBB is in official selection for the prestigious Netherlands Film Festival. Whee!)

  1. It seems that everything that happens with Blender is a step forward. The only steps back I have seen are the blender website and wiki having problems.

  2. Nice work guys, well done, that's a fair achievement, quite what is going to come out of it, who knows but certainly another round of congrats to the team is due.

    I suspect the least they're wanting [from the meetings] to get up to speed of where blender is at since, like everyone else, they're watching the development process moving thick and fast,

    BBB & ED are certainly a great couple of flagship animations which any studio would be proud to have done (IMHO)
    :~D

  3. I live here in Los Angeles and would like to attend Sunday's and Wednesday's evening events. I got the times, but where are we meeting, and how much does it cost to attend? Is it at he LA Convention Center?

  4. Hollywood, schmollywood. Ton should get back to coding or whip cracking over his troops! Why should we wait for 2.50 a moment longer? Dammit I paid nothing for this software and expect way better service than this. Jet setting around the world courting moguls of Hollywood establishment sheesh!

    ;)

  5. My best wishes to all the Blender people at Siggraph! You make us proud to be users of this software.

    N00bhaxer: Blender is taking steps forward all the time. But to me the website and wiki problems don't count as steps back or even as setbacks. But a really long wait for 2.50 does. It has been on the talks for well over a year now.

    I actually don't give rat's a** about the version number. It's the fundamental overhaul of UI and a few other major feature updates to be implemented we all are waiting for. And having to wait still is a setback to me.

    We are starting to sound like some sort of cult when we tell everyone month after month how "shortly upcoming" 2.50 will address all the issues that keep them from ditching their Max/Maya and convert to this new religion that's Blender.

    I am quite happy with Blenderas it is now. I can wait for 2.50 for eternity if needed. But we should not be in the loop where we are waiting for something that seemed to be around the corner already a year ago. And it actually seems to be as near now as it seemed to be then.

    The world is waiting, and if it has to wait another year, it would be extremely bad publicity for Blender. We, brethren, are loosing potential converts because of this.
    =)

  6. Great news, and certainly well-deserved! I've watched BBB several times, and the fact that it's STILL funny is a testament to the immense talent of the entire Peach team.

  7. Wow, excellent news! Now watch Blender double in price... ;-p

    Wish I lived in L.A., but it's a long bus ride or train ride from San Jose.. :-/

    Congrats again!

  8. Emmanuel Barroga on

    Damn, that's rather impressive. BBB was a pretty great short. I just can't wait 'til the Plumiferos movie to premiere.

  9. It would be nothing short of a miracle if any major fx-studio starts using Blender. I don't know of any unless i have been sleeping this whole time. Good luck on trying to get anyone to use it's interface work flow. Better start getting specialized classes for art university's and technical directors to consider Blender but i have doubts when we are so used to using what we already know and a certain work flow we are already used to. The thing is learning something that is so foreign to what is common a studio could loose time and money just learning something as vastly different as Blender.

  10. I like that: "Dammit I paid nothing for this software and expect better service than this".

    Nice job getting to Hollywood!!!

    w00t Blender!!!
